Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

The tranquil and picturesque surroundings make it a favored destination for both seasoned anglers and those seeking a relaxing yet thrilling fishing experience.

Successful flats fishing in Marco Island often revolves around employing specialized techniques and equipment suited for the shallow water environment. Anglers typically use light spinning or fly fishing tackle to navigate the flats quietly and present their baits or flies delicately to wary fish. This approach requires patience, keen observation, and precise casting to effectively hook these elusive species.

Fish tend to move onto the flats during incoming tides, taking advantage of the rising water to feed on baitfish and crustaceans. During outgoing tides, fish may retreat to deeper channels or around mangrove edges, where they can wait to ambush prey or find refuge from currents. Whether exploring the flats by skiff or wading through the shallows, flats fishing in Marco Island promises an unforgettable blend of natural beauty and thrilling angling opportunities for enthusiasts of all levels.

Edwin was the man! I went on a trip with my friend and my father, and we had a great time. We all got on some great fights with Goliath grouper which we won’t forget any time soon. Edwin was extremely accommodating with our plans, as weather was a big concern. He was very knowledgeable about the area, and provided us with many different options to fish throughout the trip. The boat and gear is all top notch as well. I have had a handful of experiences with different captains, and Edwin is as good as they come! I would recommend to anyone looking to have a good time and catch some fish!

Captain Edwin is the best guide around! His boat is brand new, Triton, newer than the listing shows. He took us straight to the giant grouper, we had fish in the boat within minutes of setting the trolling motor on spot lock. After the grouper bite slowed down, we ran to the mangroves and sight fished snook. He definitely knows what he is doing and didn't act like a smart-ass all day like other guides I've seen in the past. Super laid back and all business with the fish
