What techniques are popular for Inshore fishing in Santa Rosa Beach?

Inshore fishing in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, offers anglers a variety of techniques suited to its diverse coastal environments, each tailored to target specific species found in the area's rich waters. One popular method is sight fishing, particularly effective in the clear, shallow flats and along the mangrove-lined shorelines where fish like redfish and speckled trout are commonly found. Anglers slowly pole or wade through these areas, scanning the water for signs of movement or tailing fish, then presenting live bait such as shrimp or mullet, or carefully chosen artificial lures like soft plastics or spoons, to entice strikes.

Another favored technique among Santa Rosa Beach anglers is using live bait, which can include shrimp, mullet, or small baitfish like pinfish. Live bait fishing is versatile and effective around structures such as oyster bars, docks, and submerged grass beds where predatory fish like flounder and sheepshead often lurk. Anglers typically use a free-line or Carolina rig to present the bait naturally in the water, adjusting their approach based on the tidal currents and fish activity.

For those who prefer an active and versatile approach, casting artificial lures is a popular choice in Santa Rosa Beach's inshore waters. Anglers use a variety of lures such as topwater plugs, jerkbaits, and jigs to mimic the movement of baitfish or crustaceans that attract species like redfish, speckled trout, and Spanish mackerel. Casting allows anglers to cover a lot of water and explore different depths and structures, making it a rewarding technique for both beginners and experienced fishermen. Whether sight fishing, using live bait, or casting artificial lures, Santa Rosa Beach offers a diverse range of inshore fishing techniques that cater to different preferences and conditions, ensuring an enjoyable and fruitful angling experience amidst its stunning coastal backdrop.

Captain Steve was excellent. He moved our fishing location to get better results. He was on time, friendly and knowledgable. He was great with my 2 grandkids, 8 and 10. We didn't catch much edible fish but caught quite a few others - 5 species in total. I would recommend Captain Steve and would choose him again if the occasion arises.

If you don’t book with Jayson you shouldn’t even come to Destin. You might as well cancel your entire trip if you don’t book with Jayson. I’d rather spend 4 hours fishing with Jayson than 7 days at the beach because I’d spend those 7 days seeing Jayson crash through the waves catching fish as big as a small child. If it ain’t Jay-son I ain’t gonna pay-son!

If you’re looking to have the BEST time fishing in Destin. Captain Dave is the ONLY choice. Best fishing experience I’ve ever had. It was tough fishing and very windy and he still managed to get us on fish and I caught my personal best redfish. Dave is a character and that made the trip so much better. Loved every second of it. Wish I had booked a longer trip! I’ll be back next year and I’m only booking with Dave again. Planning to go out multiple days next year with him. Couldn’t recommend his charter enough.
