trip description for 3 Person Duck Hunt in South Padre Island

This is a three person half day private bay duck hunting trip near South Padre Island, Texas. The Lower Laguna Madre has some of the finest duck hunting in the United States when conditions are right. Hunting along the edges of the fronts is absolutely the most ideal time to plan a trip. Multiple species move through this bay system on their way South. Large concentrations of redheads and pintails winter here. Other species that migrate through the South Padre area are widgeon, teal, shovelers, scaup, and others. Clients can bring their own retriever if discussed beforehand with the guide. Typically, hunt over decoy spreads consisting of at least 75 decoys. Season starts in November and goes out for two weeks after Thanksgiving Sunday. Starts again on Second Saturday in December and typically goes to last Sunday in January. Guides prefer to duck hunt in the afternoon and will provide a seasoned retriever. This is a fun activity and most clients return to go again. These are not easy hunts and do require some labor. We work with a couple of seasoned taxidermists that can also mount the trophy bird if any clients are interested at a reasonable price. Read More

What is fishing in South Bay all about?

Fishing in South Bay, situated along the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay, provides anglers with a unique and rewarding fishing experience in the heart of California's Bay Area. South Bay offers a diverse range of habitats, including shallow flats, marshes, and channels, which support a variety of fish species year-round. Anglers frequent South Bay's waters to target species such as striped bass, halibut, leopard shark, and sturgeon, making it a popular destination for both recreational and commercial fishing endeavors.

One of the highlights of fishing in South Bay is the opportunity to target striped bass, a prized game fish known for its hard-hitting strikes and powerful fights. Striped bass are abundant in South Bay's waters and can be found throughout the bay, particularly along the shoreline, tidal flats, and near submerged structures. Anglers often use a variety of techniques such as trolling with plugs or spoons, casting swimbaits or live bait, and fly fishing to entice these elusive predators. Whether fishing from a boat, kayak, or the shoreline, the thrill of hooking into a trophy-sized striped bass amidst the scenic beauty of South Bay is an experience that anglers cherish.

In addition to striped bass, South Bay offers opportunities to catch other popular species such as halibut, leopard shark, and sturgeon. Halibut are prized for their delicate flavor and challenging behavior, often requiring anglers to use drifting or trolling techniques with live bait or artificial lures to entice them from their sandy hideouts. Leopard shark, with their distinctive markings and robust fights, are commonly found in South Bay's shallow waters and can provide anglers with exciting opportunities for sight fishing and bait fishing. Sturgeon, known for their prehistoric appearance and powerful runs, can be targeted using bottom fishing techniques with bait such as shrimp, squid, or sturgeon roe. Whether you're chasing striped bass along the shoreline or searching for halibut in the bay's deeper waters, fishing in South Bay promises an exciting and memorable experience for anglers of all levels.

What are the most popular months to fish in South Bay?

Fishing seasons in South Bay, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, offer anglers a diverse and rewarding experience throughout the year. Spring marks the beginning of the fishing season in South Bay, as warming temperatures trigger increased fish activity. This season is particularly fruitful for targeting species such as striped bass, halibut, and leopard sharks. As the water warms, these game fish become more active and move into shallower waters to feed and spawn. Anglers often find success using a variety of techniques, including casting with live bait, trolling with lures, or drifting with bait rigs, to entice these prized catches.

Summer in South Bay brings warmer weather and longer days, creating ideal conditions for anglers to pursue a variety of fish species. This season offers ample opportunities for targeting species like striped bass, halibut, and kingfish as they feed voraciously in the bay's shallow flats, channels, and nearshore reefs. Whether fishing from a boat, kayak, or shore, anglers can enjoy the thrill of hooking into these hard-fighting fish using a variety of methods. Additionally, summer is prime time for fishing near offshore structures for species such as lingcod, rockfish, and cabezon, providing anglers with a diverse range of fishing experiences.

As fall approaches and temperatures begin to cool, fishing in South Bay remains strong, with fish actively feeding in preparation for the winter months. This season presents excellent opportunities to target trophy-sized striped bass, halibut, and leopard sharks as they gather in large numbers to feed on baitfish and crustaceans. Anglers may also encounter migrating species such as salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon as they move through the bay in search of food. With its scenic beauty and diverse marine ecosystem, South Bay offers anglers a rewarding fishing experience year-round.

What types of fishing are popular in South Bay?

Fishing in South Bay offers anglers a diverse range of fishing experiences, each highlighting the bay's unique characteristics and abundant fish species. One popular method of fishing is shore fishing, which allows anglers to target species such as striped bass, halibut, and leopard shark from the bay's numerous shoreline access points. Anglers often use techniques like casting with bait or lures, bottom fishing with live or cut bait, and surf fishing to entice these prized game fish. Shore fishing in South Bay provides anglers with the opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of the bay while fishing from piers, jetties, beaches, and other shoreline locations.

Another popular type of fishing in South Bay is kayak fishing, which offers anglers the chance to explore the bay's shallow waters, marshes, and channels in a more intimate and eco-friendly manner. Kayak anglers can access secluded areas and navigate through narrow passages where larger boats cannot reach, providing them with unique opportunities to target fish in remote and scenic locations. Whether casting with artificial lures, fly fishing, or bait fishing, kayak fishing in South Bay offers anglers a thrilling and adventurous fishing experience amidst the natural beauty of the Bay Area.

In addition to shore and kayak fishing, South Bay also provides opportunities for boat-based fishing, particularly for anglers targeting larger species such as sturgeon and bat rays. Boat-based anglers can explore deeper channels, flats, and shipping channels where these larger fish congregate, using techniques such as bottom fishing with heavy tackle or drift fishing with live bait to entice them. Whether fishing from a skiff, center console, or bay boat, boat-based fishing in South Bay offers anglers the chance to target a variety of fish species while enjoying the comfort and convenience of a larger vessel. Whether you prefer the simplicity of shore fishing, the adventure of kayak fishing, or the versatility of boat-based fishing, South Bay offers something for every angler to enjoy amidst the scenic beauty of the Bay Area.

Anglers targeting halibut often use live bait such as anchovies or squid, as well as artificial lures like jigs or swimbaits, to entice these prized catches. Spring and summer are prime seasons for halibut fishing in South Bay, as they become more active and move into shallower waters to feed.

In addition to striped bass and halibut, South Bay offers opportunities to catch a variety of other species, including leopard sharks, kingfish, and various species of rays. Leopard sharks, known for their distinctive markings and powerful fights, can be found cruising the bay's sandy flats and channels, providing anglers with exciting angling opportunities year-round. Kingfish, also known as king mackerel or kingfish, are often found near offshore structures, where they feed on baitfish and other prey. Whether targeting striped bass, halibut, or other species, South Bay offers anglers a rewarding fishing experience amidst its scenic beauty and vibrant marine ecosystem.

Does South Bay have good fishing?

South Bay, located in the southern part of Lake Okeechobee in Florida, offers anglers a unique and rewarding fishing experience amidst the largest freshwater lake in the state. Known for its expansive waters and diverse fish populations, South Bay attracts anglers year-round seeking to catch bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish, among other species. The lake's shallow waters and abundant vegetation provide ideal habitats for fish to thrive, creating opportunities for both recreational and competitive fishing.

One of the primary attractions of fishing in South Bay is its reputation as a hotspot for largemouth bass fishing. Anglers flock to Lake Okeechobee's southern region, including South Bay, for the chance to catch trophy-sized bass. The lake's shallow flats, submerged grass beds, and structural features like submerged trees and sandbars provide ample opportunities for bass to feed and shelter. Whether fishing from a boat, kayak, or the shoreline, anglers can employ a variety of techniques such as topwater lures, soft plastics, and live bait to target bass and other game fish.

Access to South Bay is facilitated by several boat ramps, fishing piers, and marinas along Lake Okeechobee's shoreline, making it convenient for anglers to launch their vessels and explore different areas of the lake. The lake's expansive size and scenic vistas of Florida's natural landscapes offer anglers a tranquil and picturesque backdrop for a day of fishing. Wildlife sightings are common, with opportunities to observe birds, alligators, and other wildlife that inhabit the lake and its surrounding marshes. Whether you're a local angler or visiting Florida for fishing, South Bay provides a memorable and rewarding fishing experience in the heart of the Sunshine State.

Mike knew the bay very well and did his best to put us on fish. I only had two issues with the trip. It might just be his personality, but I found him to be condescending when I asked questions. I also think he fishes too much. It was like we paid to take him fishing.

Capt Tommy and Capt Jason took us on an excellent fishing adventure. Inspite of Mother nature tossing in challenging Bay conditions. The team took us in a variety of waters that we could fish. We had lots of hook ups with Redfish and Black Drum. The trip was worth every minute. We created core memories. Thank you gentlemen. We hope to see you again soon.
