When preparing for an iguana hunt in Florida, it's important to have the right equipment and supplies to ensure a safe and successful experience. Here is a list of items you should consider bringing:
Airguns and pellet guns are usually used when hunting iguanas. PCP airguns certainly provide the best performance, power, and accuracy, they are often too powerful and are set up for taking shots well beyond the typical fifteen to twenty yard shot. A lot of shooters find themselves frustrated when they are not instantly successful. Also, because you are doing a lot of walking and moving through brush, trees, and up and down embankments, there’s no easy access to high pressure air for a refill. This is where the old school break barrel, springer, or gas ram airgun comes into play. But if on a guided trip, odds are the guide will provide the gun.
Wearing lightweight, breathable clothing that covers your arms and legs to protect against the sun as well as from possible scratches and bites is recommended.Comfortable footwear with good traction for navigating tough terrains and to remain stable while on the deck of a boat is also a good consideration.
A broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
Water and energy boosting snacks are recommended, the exact quantity depends on the duration of the hunt. You can never have too much water.
Gloves: Thick, sturdy gloves to protect your hands while handling iguanas. Eye Protection: Safety glasses or goggles to shield your eyes from any potential debris or iguana scratches.
A basic first aid kit with essential supplies for minor injuries.
Mucking around in mangroves and swampy areas in Florida, one is bound to run into mosquitoes. Insect repellent is a recommended item to ward off mosquitoes, ticks, and other insects commonly found in the area.
A durable bag or backpack to carry your hunting gear and captured iguanas.
Detailed maps or GPS devices to navigate the hunting locations effectively. Odds are, your guide will have these items, but a fully charged mobile phone for communication and emergencies as well as to snap pictures is a good idea.
Optional equipment to capture or observe iguanas from a distance.
To properly dispose of any waste generated during the hunt and maintain cleanliness.
