Everything to Know About Booking a Melbourne Beach inshore fishing charter

What are the best inshore fishing charters in Melbourne Beach?

What is Inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach all about?

Inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach, Florida, offers a rich and rewarding experience for anglers of all skill levels, thanks to its diverse ecosystems and plentiful fish populations. The Indian River Lagoon, which runs alongside Melbourne Beach, is a hotspot for inshore fishing. This area is known for its shallow waters, seagrass beds, and mangrove-lined shores, providing an ideal habitat for a variety of fish species. Anglers can explore these waters by kayak, boat, or even wading, making it accessible for different fishing preferences.

One of the main attractions of inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach is the opportunity to catch species like redfish, spotted sea trout, and snook. Redfish are abundant year-round and can be found in shallow flats and around oyster bars. They are known for their powerful runs and are a favorite among sport fishermen. Spotted sea trout, particularly large "gator" trout, are also prevalent and can be caught using artificial lures or live bait. Snook, with their impressive fight and acrobatics, are typically found around mangroves and docks, especially during the warmer months when they move into the lagoon to spawn.

In addition to these primary targets, Melbourne Beach offers seasonal opportunities to catch other species like tarpon, black drum, and flounder. Tarpon, known for their spectacular jumps and strength, can be found during the summer months, providing an exciting challenge for experienced anglers. Black drum, which can grow to impressive sizes, are often caught in deeper channels and around structures. Flounder, known for their delicious fillets, are typically found on sandy or muddy bottoms, and can be targeted using live bait or jigs. With such a variety of species and fishing environments, inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach promises a fulfilling and dynamic angling experience year-round.

What are the most popular months to go Inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach?

Inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach, Florida, is a year-round activity, with each season offering unique opportunities and experiences for anglers. During the spring, the waters of the Indian River Lagoon and nearby estuaries start to warm up, sparking increased activity among various fish species. This is an excellent time to target redfish and spotted sea trout, which are abundant in the shallow flats and around seagrass beds. The spring season also sees the arrival of migratory species like tarpon, making it an exciting period for those looking to catch larger game fish.

Summer in Melbourne Beach is marked by hot weather and even hotter fishing action. This season is prime time for snook fishing, as these fish move into the lagoon to spawn. Snook can be found around mangroves, docks, and other structures, providing thrilling fights for anglers. Additionally, tarpon are more prevalent during the summer months, often spotted rolling in the deeper channels and passes. The increased presence of baitfish in the water also attracts other species like jack crevalle and ladyfish, ensuring that there is always something biting during a summer fishing trip.

As the weather cools down in the fall, the inshore fishing scene in Melbourne Beach remains vibrant. Redfish and spotted sea trout are still active, with the fall months being particularly good for catching larger "bull" redfish. The cooling waters also bring in black drum and flounder, adding to the variety of species available to anglers. Fall is a great time for fishing as the temperatures are more comfortable, and the waters are less crowded than during the peak summer months. Even in the winter, Melbourne Beach offers productive inshore fishing opportunities, with species like sheepshead and pompano becoming more prevalent. Overall, the diverse and dynamic inshore fishing seasons in Melbourne Beach provide anglers with exciting and rewarding experiences throughout the year.

What techniques are popular for Inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach?

Inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach, Florida, offers a variety of techniques suited to the area's diverse and rich ecosystems. One popular method is using light tackle with artificial lures or live bait. Light tackle fishing is versatile and effective in different inshore environments, such as seagrass beds, mangroves, and sandy flats. Anglers commonly use soft plastics, topwater plugs, and jigs to attract species like spotted sea trout, redfish, and snook. Live bait, such as shrimp, mullet, and pinfish, can also be very productive, especially when targeting species that prefer natural prey.

Fly fishing is another technique that is gaining popularity among inshore anglers in Melbourne Beach. This method is particularly rewarding for those looking to catch redfish and spotted sea trout in the shallow flats and around mangroves. Fly fishing requires precision and skill, as it often involves sight fishing where the angler must spot the fish before casting. Using lightweight fly rods and specially designed flies that mimic local baitfish or crustaceans, anglers can experience a more interactive and challenging form of fishing that highlights the beauty and serenity of the coastal environment.

For those who enjoy a more relaxed approach, bottom fishing is a tried-and-true technique in Melbourne Beach. This method involves anchoring the boat and dropping baited hooks to the bottom to target species such as flounder, sheepshead, and black drum. Bottom fishing is particularly effective around structures like docks, bridges, and rocky areas where these fish are commonly found. Using cut bait, crabs, or shrimp can yield excellent results. Whether fishing from a boat or the shore, bottom fishing offers a laid-back yet productive way to enjoy the diverse fishery of Melbourne Beach and is a great option for both beginners and seasoned anglers.

What species are popular for Inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach?

Inshore fishing in Melbourne Beach, Florida, offers anglers a diverse range of species to target throughout the year, each with its own peak seasons and preferred habitats. One of the most sought-after species is the redfish, known for its powerful runs and distinctive coppery coloration. Redfish can be found year-round in the shallow waters around mangroves, oyster bars, and grass flats. They are particularly active in the cooler months of fall and winter, making these seasons ideal for targeting larger "bull" redfish.

Spotted sea trout, another popular catch in Melbourne Beach, can be found in abundance throughout the Indian River Lagoon and adjacent waters. These fish are known for their spotted pattern and are prized for their delicious white meat. Spotted sea trout can be caught using a variety of techniques, including live bait such as shrimp or mullet, as well as artificial lures like soft plastics and topwater plugs. These fish thrive in the brackish waters of the lagoon and can be found around mangrove shorelines, docks, and bridges. Spring and summer are prime seasons for snook fishing, as they migrate into shallow waters to spawn. Anglers often target snook using live bait such as pilchards or pinfish, as well as artificial lures like jerkbaits and swimbaits. Trip: Inshore Fishing Trip

Overall the trip with Richard was excellent. My party arrived at the prescribed time and Richard already had the boat off the ramp and in the water. We loaded out stuff and off we went. The trip to the spot he selected took about an hour to arrive. He kept the hooks baited and provided suggestions and helped our youngest (11 yo) to hook fish and bring them it. Richard had a great selection of live and frozen bait that worked very well. Of the four of us each pulled in at least two fish with some getting more. Good selection pulled in with at least 4 different breeds of fish being kept which Richard prepared for us after we arrived. Well worth the money spent. The captain became a friend.

We had a blast on Captain Rick's boat. He took us straight out to a reef on top of wide open Mahi, sight fishing. Hes friendly, understanding, super knowledgeable, helpful and all around does it to make sure all types of anglers get an awesome chart with some big trophy catches. I would highly recommend getting on Captain Rick's boat for a fun day of big game fishing. Offers drinks om the boat. Filet, clean, and bag our catch. Next time we get back to the area, he will be our first choice for our next charter. Thank you, Captain Rick. Till next time!

Couldn’t recommend enough. Kenny was really knowledgeable, a great coach, had a great set up and made sure we had plenty of decent catches. We also got the opportunity to spot some local wildlife along the way. Would definitely book with him again in the future.
