trip description for Afternoon 1/2 day fishing in Key West

Sleep in, then go fishing. A 4-hour fishing trip is a great way to fish and explore the local waters surrounding Key West. Our half-day trips usually leave the dock around 1:30 p.m. and return around 5:30 p.m. However, this may change depending on the conditions, time of year, and customer preference. Captain John's mission is always to provide the best fishing experience possible with the conditions at hand. His vessel, a 28' center console (built by Latitude Tournament Boats), is a true "hybrid" fishing machine. This means that on a nice day, you can comfortably fish offshore reefs, wrecks, and Gulfstream currents. You also have the option to fish backcountry channels, inshore wrecks, and nearshore patch reefs if the wind picks up. On a full day, we might have the opportunity to target multiple species both in the deep and the shallow. Captain John specializes in light tackle fishing. This means he'll match the rod and reel outfit to the size fish you're targeting to make for the best overall angling experience. If you would like to fly fish, the captain can accommodate you. However, you must bring your own fly fishing equipment. Expect to target Amberjack, Barracuda, Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Grouper, and more, depending on the length of your trip. Evening Tarpon trips are also offered. Live bait makes a big difference. Pilchards, pinfish, herring, ballyhoo, and blue crabs are some of the varieties you are likely to find in the livewell. Catching bait is part of the charter, and while it may take some extra time, your captain knows it makes the difference between a fantastic fishing trip and one that's just okay. Your fishing license is included. Bring sunblock (non-spray), sunglasses, a hat, snacks, and drinks. Book your trip and hit the water with Captain John! Read More

What an enjoyable trip with Captain Craig and Brett. We started off with two King fish right away. The day took off from there catching Mahi Mahi, tuna, and a jumbo Bonita. All along the way they were sharing stories and teaching us about fishing. It is evident that they both love fishing and sharing what they know to their patrons. I am already planning my next adventure on this boat!

Capt. Craig was amazing, we did a 1/2 day trip caught about 30 fish about 10 keepers. Great conversation and his 1st mate was outstanding as well. I’d recommend this charter to anyone looking to catch some fish and have a good time

Amanda T. with Craig H. of Naval Air Station Key West, Florida

We had an amazing time with "Off the Charts" charter and Captain Joe was fantastic! He has a very easy going, friendly personality and it was easy to see he aims to please his customers. He was also extremely patient with my kids and seemed to enjoy teaching them some of his fishing techniques. While my boys have been fishing their whole lives, this was their first time trolling. They loved every minute, especially reeling in their fist Mahi Mahi! I was very satisfied and would highly recommend him for your fishing adventure. We may have just been another charter family for him, but he will live infinitely in our Key West vacation memories!

Alexis C. with Joe T. of Key West, Florida

Great trip. Great captain. We were on the meat within the first half hour of the trip and caught our limit. He did an awesome job cleaning the fish that it was ready to be cooked when we got home. Very personable with lots of knowledge.

Chris K. with Joe T. of Key West, Florida
