Spring fishing is firing on all cylinders and we're excited to share another fantastic Big Ol Mess fishing report. See below for updates on the action, but the big news is our Galveston deep sea fishing report from Captain Lee.
We had a blast on the trip catching 12 Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and a few other species as well. Be sure to check in this week as we post an in-depth recap of the trip, along with video of our topwater Tuna bite and delicious Tuna catch-and-cook recipes!
"Caught 12 Yellowfin Tuna at the Nansen Oil Rig. We left out of Galveston, TX Saturday and returned Sunday. One Yellowfin was caught on a topwater popper lure and the rest on chunk bait" - Captain Lee Crisler
"Fishing is starting to get hot just like the weather. Speckled Trout are starting to hold on reefs in East and West bays. Better bites for me have been on the outgoing tides. Redfish are holding along rock jetties along with the occasional Flounder. Fishing has been great so let's go fishing." - Captain Michael Meza
"Sheepshead and Redfish remain hot and Speckled Trout are continuing to show at the jetties. Speckled Trout in the bay System is good" - Captain LG Boyd
"It’s been a slow week overall. Post full moon and weekday time tides have been the major factors. We have been using artificial lures for the most part. And occasionally live shrimp. The weather has been better than we usually get this time of year with reasonable winds from all directions." - Captain Harry Arthur
"Today’s trip 4 hour jetty trip released lots more Sheepshead and a few bull Redfish released." - Captain Jason Woods
"Wife and I went to Trinity Bay this week and got two limits of Speckled Trout using live shrimp under a cork. The East side of Trinity Bay is holding Speckled Trout and a few Redfish. The North Jetties have lots of Sheepshead and a few nice Speckled Trout are being caught with live shrimp. Thanks." - Captain Mike Cacciotti
"We're hammering fish!" - Captain Kenneth Gregory
Working over grass and mud still, the transition to sand hasn't happened yet, look for bait working shorelines and around structures...top water continue to produce and burner shad by Downsouthlures in super natural and chicken of the sea..
"Fishing is S L O W. I have gone to live bait, therefore fish are somewhat smaller, but we're catching fish and that's the main purpose. Lake Texoma red water from the muddy Red River is coming in, but life is good! Things are beginning to open up and we'll fish more when the State opens up fully. Fins Up. JD!" - JD Dorsey
"Catfish still great on Livingston" - Scott Pierce
"Catching them on steep, windblown shorelines with perch colored jerkbaits and drop shot rigged finesse worms." - Ander Meine
"Fishing is still closed sadly." - Captain Shaun Uyeda
"Fishing is hot right now in South Louisiana. The Shrimp Migration has begun in the outer bays and the Spring fishing season is here." - Captain Joe Gaudin
"Quarantine or not, my family is going fishing! It’s the time of year that the Speckled Trout make their big run out to the spawning grounds and what a Spring it has been so far. I grew up fishing and my family loves to spend time outdoors so we are using this time to fish together.
The fishing has been incredible with limits almost every time we go. As long as the wind is right we are fishing the outside edges and bays and loading up on Speckled Trout. With all that being said, I’m ready to get back to work taking my clients on the the charter fishing trips of a lifetime.
Charter fishing trips are still open during the Covid-19 restrictions and we have plenty spots open to go chase Redfish and Speckled Trout. Our lodge is clean as a whistle and ready! It seems like most folks are ready to start getting things back to normal and what better way than with a charter fishing trip in the Louisiana marsh? One of the best things about a charter fishing trip after all this is that you can still limit the amount of people you are around. A couple close family members or co-workers is all you need to put a trip together. We can also safely accommodate groups as well. It’s really up to you. The main thing is, let’s start getting things back to normal and do it safely!
I have been fishing out of Shell Beach with my fiancé and my son Jimmy. We have bean tearing up the Speckled Trout on days when weather is right. The fishing has not even peaked yet and will only get better. We are catching nice sized trout too. Live shrimp from Campo’s marina is the ticket. That’s why I’m always up before sunrise getting the shrimp in the live well and getting the boat ready for my customers. I can’t wait to start seeing all of you again." - Captain Jimmy Corley
"This week for some reason has seen the Redfish move into deeper water. All of my good catches have been coming from 15' or deeper. Water clarity continues to be an issue. I am looking for clean water. And it's not North of the Saint John's River. Flounder bite has slown down this week and the Sea Trout seem to be more up the river.." - Captain Kyle Rodrigue
"Redfish in the passes right now with live pilchard and pinfish." - Captain Andre Luttana
"Spanish Mackerel, Blackfin Tuna and King Mackerel have been chewing close to the shore and the Cobia migration is in full swing! We have found some very nice fish the last few weeks!" - Captain Tyler Allen
