What are the most popular months to go inshore fishing in Big Pine Key?

Inshore fishing in Big Pine Key experiences distinct seasonal variations that influence the types of fish available and their activity levels. **Spring** is a fantastic time for inshore fishing as the waters start warming up and fish become more active after the cooler winter months. During this season, species like bonefish and tarpon begin to move into shallower waters, making them more accessible to anglers. The mild temperatures and increasing daylight create ideal conditions for fishing, with bonefish becoming more active and tarpon starting their migration patterns.

**Summer** is the peak season for inshore fishing in Big Pine Key, offering some of the best opportunities to catch a variety of species. This method involves casting the bait and letting it drift naturally, which can be particularly enticing to predatory fish. The versatility of live bait allows anglers to adapt to various conditions and target a range of inshore species.

**Artificial lures** are also a popular choice for inshore fishing in Big Pine Key. Anglers use a variety of lures, including soft plastics, spoons, and jerk baits, to mimic the movement of baitfish or other prey. This technique can be effective for attracting species like snook, tarpon, and permit. Trip: Catch Your Own Tasty Lobster!

Captain Jamie took us out in the early afternoon, and even though we knew the bite was a little slow at this time, we just wanted to get out and enjoy the water around beautiful Key West. He made the most of our four hours; we hit around four spots and even cruised over to the ocean side to try and find the bite that way. In this 4-hour trip, I got a crash course in fly fishing from one of the best. Jamie’s super laid-back, easy to talk to, and knows the area like the back of his hand. We wrapped up the trip with a gorgeous sunset; it was a 10/10 day all around. Even with the slow bite, it was one of the most scenic, educational, and unforgettable trips I’ve ever been on!
