trip description for Fishing for Monsters at Night in Miami

This trip is fishing for monsters. The targeted species are Cubera Snapper, Goliath Grouper and Sharks. This is the ultimate big game trip next to Sword fishing which I offer as a day trip. This trip is about focussing on catching huge fish hanging around ship wrecks. The bait consists of whole fish with the average bait weighing around 5 pounds. The gear used are big game set ups, butt rods, 50 or 80 Penn International 2 speeds spooled with 100 lb braided line, followed by 600 lb test leader to 400 lb wire leader, ending with two giant 18/0 hooks. The trip is aboard, Posiedon, my new 36’ Yellowfin center console. This boat is the ultimate in offshore, big game boats. Powered with triple 275 hp Mercury Verados, it is very fast and handles like a Lamborgini. Yellowfin is hands down the sexiest center console ever made and they haven’t changed the hull design in over a decade. The sexy hull design pushes water away from the boat making it very dry as water rarely ever comes over the rail. The hull design also provides a stable base for handling the roughest Seas. The tricked out lighting includes 6 blue underwater lights making it epic for night fishing. The brand new computer systems consists of 2 completely independent systems. The first is a 12” Garmin chart plotter with radar, GPS and a fish finder that will tell you what type of fish it is at 2000’ deep! The second system is a 12” Raymarine chart plotter with 4’ open array radar, GPS, adaptive autopilot and fish finder with side scan sonar. The Fusion BT sound system will keep the tunes and good times going. There is a head on the boat for girls and emergencies. Captain BrYan has thousands of marked fishing spots on the computers and is offshore at night about 3-5 times a week. His extensive knowledge of the Ocean, Haulover Inlet and the Intercostal Water Ways will keep you safe in any situation. The Miami Beach skyline is epic at night from a boat. There aren’t too many places in the World where you can deep Sea fish a couple miles from shore and see such a beautiful city scene. Fishing for monsters, offshore, at night in the open Ocean while enjoying the beautiful view of Miami is something all fisher persons must experience. Captain BrYan has everything you need, just bring your food and drinks, beer and glass bottles are perfectly fine too! There will be bottled waters in a cooler with ice for you on the boat. Usually Sharks are catch and release with the average fish weighing over 300 lbs. If you want to harvest a Shark that is legal, then please let Captain BrYan know prior to the day of the trip. Shark cleaning fees start at $50 and go up depending on size. Goliath Grouper is catch and release only, unless you have won a tag from FWC in the annual drawing. If you have one of these tags, please let Captain BrYan know when you book the trip. Cubera Snapper are delicious and can be harvested. Complimentary cleaning for Cuberas under 20lbs, fish over 20 lbs are $25 each to be cleaned. Vacuum packing service is provided for an additional fee to be determined depending on size of catch. This trip is for everyone, especially children and beginners! Read More

Captain John is located at the exciting Bayside Marketplace and Marina right in the heart of downtown Miami and just 5 minutes away from South Beach (just over MacArthur Causeway). Fish the Waters of Miami and Key Biscayne for some of the world's most prized sport fish! These trips are fantastic because there is only a short run to the fishing grounds. The water gets deep two miles offshore as you pass South Beach and Key Biscayne just off Miami. This means that you can still expect to chase down Sailfish, Kingfish, Blackfin Tuna, and other species on a short trip. The boat offers all types of tackle, from ultra-light to monster tackle. Everything is supplied for your trip except catering (beverages and/or food). Catering is easily arranged when you place your reservation. The boat features a fighting chair, rocket launcher, outriggers, and a large bait well. For your comfort in the air-conditioned saloon, there is a 32" flat-screen TV, stereo, comfortable seating with head and galley, and stateroom down. Your guide, Captain John, has been fishing the local and Bahamian waters for over thirty years, and he will ensure you have a pleasant trip. Bayside Marketplace, our place of departure, is in the heart of renovated downtown Miami and the Mall is host to the Hard Rock Cafe, Hooters, and a myriad of cafes and boutiques. From this dock, it is a short and interesting ride to the ocean past cruise ships at Dodge Island and million-dollar homes that are dotted around the channels and cuts. Read More

What types of fishing charters are common in Miami?

Deep Sea fishing is the most popular type of fishing in Miami as well as nearshore fishing, inshore fishing, and flats fishing.

The most commonly sought after species in Miami are: 1. mahi mahi, 2. kingfish, 3. sailfish, 4. wahoo, and 5. blackfin tuna.

The most common fishing techniques in Miami are live bait fishing, bottom fishing, and trolling but heavy tackle fishing and light tackle fishing are popular as well.

How much do Miami fishing charters cost?

Prices in Miami can range anywhere from about $600 to $3,550, but the average price for a half day trip in Miami is $1,413. The average price for a full day trip in Miami is $2,073.

Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for fishing in Miami?

The most popular season for fishing in Miami is spring, and most anglers book their trips 22 days in advance.

Do I need a Miami fishing license and what are the bag limits in Miami?

See here for more information on fishing licenses in Miami, bag limits for target species, and fishing season regulations in Miami. When in doubt, your fishing guide will always know the right rules and regulations in Miami.

Miami Fishing Overview

Miami fishing charters offer a diverse range of fishing experiences for both novice and experienced anglers. Inshore fishing is popular for those new to the sport, with Redfish and Seatrout being the most commonly targeted species. Pros can take on more challenging fish such as Snook, Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit. Longer trips can lead to offshore fishing, where Grouper, Amberjack, Snapper, and Tilefish can be found. The Gulf Stream also brings big game monsters like Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna.

Inshore charters are ideal for families and beginners, with calm, sheltered waters and rich fishing spots close to shore. Nearshore reef fishing is perfect for loading up on delicious fish, and a few extra hours can make a significant difference. Full-day trips are recommended for exploring the world-class fishing grounds of ""Sailfish Alley.""

Miami has a plethora of charter boats available, with Blue Lagoon being a popular starting spot for inshore fishing. Licenses are typically included in charter packages, but it's important to be aware of Atlantic Coast seasons and bag limits, which differ from the rest of the state.

Inshore Fishing in Miami

Just minutes away from high-rise condos and loud city blocks is one of the largest and most biodiverse open water inshore fisheries on Florida's Atlantic coast.

Biscayne Bay stretches from North Miami all the way down to Elliot Key close to the Southern Glades. It is impossible to fish all of this water in a year, much less a single day. Luckily, our Miami fishing charters know all the best spots. Throughout Biscayne Bay there are numerous islands, flats, cuts, canals, and channels. Here is where you'll find monster Snook, Permit, Bonefish, Redfish, and more.

If you can stand the heat of summer, you'll have a chance at catching Miami's true A-lister: the Tarpon. These Silver Kings hang out in channels, flats, and around bridge pilings as they fill up on schooling Menhaden and other baitfish snacks.

Miami inshore fishing isn't all about the saltwater, however. The city's freshwater canals are full of massive Peacock and Largemouth Bass, which put up incredible fights for landlocked species.

Deep Sea and Offshore Fishing in Miami

The fun doesn't stop in town. Just take a short boat ride from Miami, and you can be fishing hundreds of reefs, wrecks, and shallow structure, all teeming with life.

Reef & wreck trips are typically 4-6 hours long, and are excellent for taking the family out. When fishing shallow structure, there is no telling what you will catch. Grouper and Snapper species are to be expected, as well as any number of tropical fish species like Triggerfish and Jacks.

For the longer trips, you will not find closer access to the Gulf Stream than in Miami. Proximity to this ocean-wide current means species that normally take extended day trips to target can be caught on half-day to 3/4 day trips. Species like Sailfish, Wahoo, Tuna, and Kingfish are all caught on these trips.

The king of offshore fishing in Miami, however, is the Mahi Mahi. Possibly the most recognizable fish in the world, these vibrant colored predators invade Miami's offshore waters in the heat of summer. There are few things more exciting that finding a floating patch of seaweed and drawing out a bull Mahi-Mahi from under it.

Super fun dive! Conditions weren’t ideal but captain Aaron made sure to find prime & safe spots regardless and was able to shoot some fish & lobsters to enjoy the rest of my Florida trip!

We had a great time with Captain Aaron and Michelle. We were all beginners at free diving and Aaron really helped us get comfortable in the water and get us into some lobster. Definitely recommend if you want a great time out in the water and if you want to fill your cooler.

Excellent Trip !! .. Manny and Jordan were fantastic Fun ... and experienced ... Caught some nice fish, had great fun and most of all learned a LOT about deep sea fishing !! .. Of my party of 5 - only I could speak English, but Manny is a master of sign language ... we ALL understood and enjoyed !! .. They both even went one step above and beyoned to get us when the Uber driver dropped us off at the WRONG place ... This tripe will leave a lasting memory for my Eastern European family !! .. Thank You !!

Trip was fantastic, very knowledgeable guide. He knew all the best spots and taught me multiple new techniques. Caught multiple species on live bait, artificial, and I even caught my first fish on the fly. Absolutely amazing time. The shore lunch tasted fantastic!

Charlie was a fantastic guide, my buddies and I will definitely contact him again for iguana, Python, or gator hunts. We’re military and got along great with him. Took us to a nice canal, not much water traffic at all, so we were first on the water hunting, not picking up scraps left from other hunters. Went during the summer, which winter is better, but still shot over 20 iguanas. Was a great time, highly recommend Charlie.

Was a great experience. Captain Chris and his first mate Jack was very knowledgeable. We caught a couple of our target fish as well as others. They fillet and bagged the Fish. Jack was on top of everything g as far as the rods go bouncing back and forth switching baits and helping with what we needed to do
