Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for on a light tackle fishing charter in Louisiana?

Had a redfish trip with Captain Rich on 7-17-24. We had some thunder storms in the area but he was able to navigate around the to get to the first spot. He could tell we were fairly experienced and offered us great advice on how to get on them. When the storms started moving in he took us to a different place. We slayed them! Rich was super knowledgeable and an outstanding guide. Can’t wait for next time.

He even has a little potty for ladies on the boat so you don’t have to hang off the side!! We hit all of our red snapper limits before 10 and then got some trout and red fish! We also caught TONS of cool stuff that we threw back shark, little shark swimmer fish, angel fish, drum, and so many more!! Amazing trip!!

James is a true captain that has the fisherman in mind at all times. First he knows the area and is safe. He worked hard to get us on fish and we tried several areas before we were successful. He found the fish though and then we stayed to get some in the box. I have been on many fishing trips and James is at the top of my list. He is personable and cares about his clients. If your looking for a quality experienced Captain look no farther than James.

Captain Daryl was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and laid-back. He made our fishing trip beginner-friendly and went above and beyond to ensure we caught the fish we were after. We reeled in every species you’d want during our inshore adventure! His teaching skills were top-notch, and he never once made me feel inadequate due to my lack of fishing experience. Plus, he had a great sense of humor that kept us laughing throughout the trip. Best fishing trip I’ve been on! I can't wait to go fishing with him again!

Brad was great! The fishing was amazing. It was easy and convenient to set up the trip. My husband and son had a fantastic time. It was definitely the highlight of our trip!

Good guide, knows where the fish are, would have like to see tactical changes made for different species or when the bit slowed down. I’d like to see a variety in the arsenal you know. That’s just me being my hardcore fishing self. My wife loved it because we didn’t have to clean or fuel our boat. I agree it’s nice just being a paying customer. The hard thing for me and being very expirienced is you expect everyone to be like you. Tommy did us right and I appreciate his hard work. I’d use Tommy again and would recommend Tommy to others

Doug F. with Tommy A. of Sulphur, Louisiana
