The combination of a seemingly unlimited supply of hungry fish and miles and miles of shallow water, make coastal SE Louisiana one of the best kept secrets in the fly fishing world. If you haven’t heard about Louisiana Fly Fishing, it’s probably because a lot of people don’t want you to know about it so that they can have it all to themselves. As with any fly fishing trip, we don’t normally catch as many fish as we would on conventional tackle; however, multiple hook-ups are almost a certainty on every Louisiana guided fishing trip. On a good day you can expect to catch 5-10 fish per angler, on an exceptional day the numbers can reach 20+ fish per angler or more. There are also plenty of black drum and sheepshead, both of which will readily take a fly. Trust me, this truly is a place that fly fishermen fall in love with. Read More

trip description for Overnight Trip - 35' Contender in Boothville-Venice

On this epic trip, you'll run out up to 180 miles offshore with Captain Donnie to chase down some of the hardest-fighting and finest-tasting fish the ocean has to offer. These overnight trips are great for targeting big-time Yellowfin Tuna out on the Midnight Knob, located roughly ~170 miles offshore. In addition, you'll be able to go after Swordfish, Sailfish, Marlin, and more! If you're an offshore angler looking to knock some species off your bucket list, there's no better way to do it. In order to fish as efficiently as possible, you'll switch up techniques in order to capitalize on the fishes' feeding patterns. For example, because Tuna spend most of their time feeding on squid down at great depths, and only rise to the surface in the early hours of the morning, you'll only troll for Tuna at that time, then switch back to drifting for Swordfish, chasing Sailfish, or targeting other species. Captain Donnie leaves it all out there when you choose to fish with him. He will work tirelessly to make sure you get the best opportunities at the fish you're trying to catch. His 35' Contender is equipped with all the best rods and reels (as well as electric reels for deep dropping), plus all the tackle you could possibly need for a successful day out on the water! Be advised: Fuel is included in the price of this trip! Head out deep with Captain David to chase down some of the hardest fighting and finest-tasting fish the ocean has to offer. The Tuna fishing in Venice can be good year-round! Like most types of fishing though, weather patterns and fish habits can be unpredictable, not to mention Tuna notoriously spend most of their time at unreachable depths. For the best chances at giant Yellowfin Tuna look to book your trip in the Fall or Winter months and definitely book an overnight trip. Though Tuna can be caught anywhere from 5 to 200 miles offshore, the overnight trip is highly recommended if you really want the best shot at some big Yellowfin. Billfishing is also good offshore of Venice, LA. You can target Marlin, Sailfish, and even happen to hook into a Swordfish! Captain David is committed to making sure his customers have a great experience out on the water. He will work his tail off to get you onto the fish! These elusive and agile fish, also known as spotted seatrout, are a favorite among anglers for their thrilling fights and delectable taste. In the intricate network of marshes, bayous, and estuaries that define this region, speckled trout thrive, finding ample food and shelter amidst the maze of aquatic vegetation and tidal currents.

The waters around Boothville-Venice provide an ideal habitat for speckled trout, offering a perfect balance of salt and freshwater necessary for their survival. Anglers flock to this area year-round, drawn by the promise of landing trophy-sized trout in the tranquil beauty of the Louisiana marshlands. Whether casting from the shoreline, wading in shallow flats, or navigating the labyrinthine waterways by boat, the pursuit of speckled trout in Boothville-Venice offers an immersive outdoor experience that combines the thrill of the chase with the serenity of nature.

Beyond the thrill of the catch, speckled trout play a crucial role in the ecological health of Boothville-Venice's delicate ecosystem. As voracious predators, they help regulate populations of smaller fish and crustaceans, contributing to the overall balance of marine life in these waters. Moreover, their presence attracts a variety of bird species, creating a rich tapestry of biodiversity that characterizes the region. In Boothville-Venice, the allure of speckled trout extends far beyond the fishing rod, embodying the intrinsic connection between humanity and the natural world.

What are the most popular months to fish for speckled trout in Boothville-Venice?

In Boothville-Venice, the cycle of speckled trout seasons is as much a part of local lore as the marshes themselves. Spring heralds the beginning of prime fishing as the waters warm, enticing speckled trout to move closer to the surface in search of prey. Anglers eagerly await this time, knowing that the shallows will soon teem with these prized fish. As temperatures rise and the days lengthen, the action reaches its peak, with both seasoned fishermen and novices alike vying for their share of the catch.

Summer brings its own set of challenges and rewards to speckled trout enthusiasts in Boothville-Venice. As the sun beats down on the marshlands, speckled trout retreat to deeper waters to escape the heat, testing anglers' skills in locating and enticing them to bite. Despite the added difficulty, the thrill of hooking into a hefty speckled trout remains undiminished, making those successful catches all the more satisfying. With patience and perseverance, anglers continue to ply the waters, knowing that each cast could bring forth a prized trophy.

As the seasons transition into fall, the speckled trout of Boothville-Venice embark on their annual migration, following the shifting currents and temperatures in search of ideal feeding grounds. This period marks a time of abundance for anglers, as speckled trout congregate in large numbers along their migratory routes, providing ample opportunities for fruitful fishing excursions. The crisp air and changing foliage serve as a backdrop to the excitement on the water, as anglers savor the last days of the season before winter's chill sets in, temporarily quieting the marshes and signaling a brief respite until the cycle begins anew.

What techniques are popular for catching speckled trout in Boothville-Venice?

In Boothville-Venice, mastering the art of speckled trout fishing requires a blend of skill, patience, and understanding of the local waters. One popular technique among anglers is to target speckled trout in shallow flats and marshy areas during the early morning or late evening hours when these fish are most active. Using lightweight spinning or baitcasting tackle paired with artificial lures such as soft plastic swimbaits, spoons, or topwater plugs, anglers carefully cast into likely holding spots, working their lures with subtle twitches and pauses to mimic the movement of natural prey.

Another effective method for catching speckled trout in Boothville-Venice is drift fishing along tidal currents or submerged structure. Anglers drift slowly with the current while presenting live bait such as shrimp, mullet, or croakers suspended beneath popping corks or free-lined with minimal weight. This technique allows anglers to cover a larger area of water and target speckled trout as they forage along the bottom or in mid-water depths. Adjusting the depth of the bait and the speed of the drift to match the conditions is key to enticing bites and maximizing success.

During periods of strong tidal flow or when targeting larger speckled trout, many anglers opt for bottom fishing using Carolina rigs or jig heads tipped with soft plastic or natural baits. By anchoring or using a trolling motor to hold position near drop-offs, oyster beds, or channel edges, anglers can present their baits directly to feeding fish holding in these prime locations. Patience is essential when bottom fishing, as speckled trout often take their time inspecting baits before committing to a strike. However, the reward of hooking into a trophy-sized speckled trout makes the wait well worth it for dedicated anglers in Boothville-Venice.

What other species are popular in Boothville-Venice?

While speckled trout undoubtedly steal the spotlight in Boothville-Venice, the waters of this Louisiana paradise offer a diverse array of other species to target for anglers seeking varied experiences. Redfish, also known as red drum, are a favorite among locals and visitors alike. These hard-fighting fish patrol the marsh flats and estuaries, readily striking both artificial lures and live bait. Whether sight casting to tailing redfish in shallow water or targeting them around structure such as oyster reefs and mangrove islands, the thrill of tangling with these powerful game fish is unmatched.

Another popular species sought after in Boothville-Venice is the flounder. These masters of camouflage lurk along sandy bottoms and ambush prey with lightning-fast strikes. Anglers often target flounder by drifting or slowly working baits along the bottom near channels, drop-offs, and submerged structure. Flounder are notorious for their ability to blend seamlessly into their surroundings, making them a challenging yet rewarding catch for those who manage to entice them with well-presented baits.

For those looking to add some variety to their catch, Boothville-Venice also offers opportunities to target species such as black drum, sheepshead, and speckled trout's close cousin, the white trout. Whether casting from the shoreline, navigating the maze of waterways by boat, or wading through the marsh flats, anglers in Boothville-Venice are spoiled for choice when it comes to the plethora of species waiting to be discovered beneath the surface. With each new target comes a unique set of challenges and adventures, ensuring that every day on the water is filled with excitement and anticipation.

Had a redfish trip with Captain Rich on 7-17-24. We had some thunder storms in the area but he was able to navigate around the to get to the first spot. He could tell we were fairly experienced and offered us great advice on how to get on them. When the storms started moving in he took us to a different place. We slayed them! Rich was super knowledgeable and an outstanding guide. Can’t wait for next time.

Went out with Captain Davide on June 5,2023. His in depth knowledge of the waters ( fishing he area since he was 9y.o.) really made the difference. We were on fish almost all day. He knew how to target each species and the best place to get them. He organized the day to target species that would keep us reeling fish in. Combination of American reds (15), Tuna(6), and variety of other species . Not to mention the wahoo that broke me off ( Damn near the biggest I ever saw). Ended with a day of heat exhaustion for me, 2 hours of fish cleaning for David, and buying 3 extra coolers for the haul home. Be careful...... There is alot of mean mugging at the cleaning station. Most everyone else got skunked that day. Thanks Capt. David Dr, James Hill Ft. Lauderdale Fl.
