Deep Sea fishing is the most popular type of fishing in Venice as well as inshore fishing, nearshore fishing, and flats fishing.

The most commonly sought after species in Venice are: 1. redfish, 2. speckled trout, 3. red snapper, 4. flounder, and 5. tripletail.

The most common fishing techniques in Venice are light tackle fishing, artificial lure fishing, and bottom fishing but heavy tackle fishing and live bait fishing are popular as well.

Prices in Venice can range anywhere from about $750 to $5,100, but the average price for a half day trip in Venice is $800. The average price for a full day trip in Venice is $2,483.

Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What is fishing in Venice all about?

Venice, Louisiana, is a haven for anglers seeking a diverse range of species in its rich waters. Redfish, known for their powerful fights and distinctive copper hue, are a staple catch in these inshore waters. Whether sight casting along the marshy shorelines or exploring the winding bayous, Venice provides an ideal habitat for these prized gamefish. Anglers can test their skills against both bull reds and slot reds, creating an exciting and varied inshore fishing experience.

Speckled trout are another highly sought-after species in Venice's inshore waters. These voracious predators inhabit the estuaries and shallows, offering anglers the chance to reel in a bounty of these tasty and beautiful fish. As the seasons shift, the patterns for targeting speckled trout may change, providing a dynamic challenge for anglers throughout the year. The thrill of feeling a trout strike and the anticipation of a successful catch make speckled trout fishing a favorite pastime for those exploring the waters around Venice.

Beyond redfish and speckled trout, Venice's diverse ecosystem presents opportunities to target other species such as flounder, sheepshead, and black drum. Each brings its own unique characteristics and challenges, adding variety to the inshore fishing experience. Whether casting near the structures of the Mississippi River Delta or navigating the intricate bayous, anglers in Venice, Louisiana, can expect a rewarding mix of catches that contribute to the area's well-deserved reputation as a premier fishing destination.

What species are most popular to catch in Venice?

Venice, Louisiana, stands out as a mecca for anglers due to its incredibly diverse array of fish species inhabiting its waters. One of the most coveted catches is the redfish, a robust and hard-fighting species that populates the intricate network of marshes and estuaries. Whether you're pursuing bull reds or slot reds, the challenge of hooking into these formidable fish against the backdrop of the Mississippi River Delta's unique ecosystem makes for an unforgettable angling experience.

Speckled trout, with their distinctive markings and reputation for putting up a spirited fight, are another prized species found in abundance around Venice. These voracious predators inhabit the estuaries and coastal waters, making them a favorite among anglers year-round. Navigating the bayous and flats in pursuit of speckled trout provides a dynamic and engaging fishing experience, with each catch adding to the thrill of the adventure.

In addition to redfish and speckled trout, anglers in Venice, Louisiana, can target a variety of other species that add to the region's allure. Flounder, sheepshead, and black drum are just a few examples of the diverse marine life that calls these waters home. Whether casting near the submerged structures of the Mississippi River Delta or exploring the winding bayous, Venice offers a rich tapestry of fishing opportunities, ensuring that anglers of all preferences and skill levels can find their ideal catch in this angler's paradise.

What are the fishing seasons in Venice?

Fishing seasons in Venice, Louisiana, are characterized by a dynamic rhythm dictated by the changing patterns of the Mississippi River Delta's ecosystem. Spring signals the start of heightened activity as the waters warm, drawing in a diverse range of species. This season is particularly fruitful for targeting redfish and speckled trout as they become more active in the estuaries and marshes. Anglers revel in the abundance of life as they navigate the winding bayous, experiencing the thrill of the chase against the backdrop of emerging greenery.

As summer takes hold, Venice continues to offer prime fishing conditions. The warmer temperatures bring an increase in baitfish, attracting larger predatory species to the shallows. Redfish remain a popular target, and the pursuit of speckled trout continues to provide excitement for anglers seeking variety. The long, sun-drenched days offer ample opportunities for anglers to explore the vast network of waterways and experience the unique challenges presented by the shifting summer tides.

Fall ushers in a different kind of magic in Venice as the seasons transition. While the temperatures begin to cool, the fishing scene remains vibrant. Redfish continue to be a prominent catch, and the fall months are known for providing excellent opportunities to target other species like flounder and sheepshead. The changing colors of the marsh grasses and the mild weather create an inviting atmosphere for anglers, offering a serene and visually stunning backdrop to their inshore fishing adventures in Venice, Louisiana.

What techniques are popular for fishing in Venice?

In Venice, Louisiana, mastering a variety of fishing techniques is crucial for success in the diverse and dynamic waters of the Mississippi River Delta. Anglers often employ sight fishing when targeting redfish, a technique that involves visually spotting the fish in the shallows and making precise casts. The intricate network of marshes and estuaries provides ample opportunities for this visually engaging approach, requiring keen observation and quick reflexes to capitalize on the moment when a redfish is in range.

Topwater fishing is a popular and thrilling technique used by anglers in Venice, especially when pursuing speckled trout. The explosive strikes and surface action make topwater lures enticing for these aggressive predators. As the lure dances across the water's surface, anglers experience heart-pounding moments as speckled trout breach to attack, creating an exhilarating and memorable fishing experience. This technique is particularly effective during the warmer months when trout are more active near the surface.

In addition to these techniques, Venice, Louisiana, offers opportunities for anglers to hone their skills in bottom fishing, particularly when pursuing species like flounder and sheepshead. Dropping baited rigs near submerged structures, oyster beds, or channel edges can yield success for those seeking a different angling challenge. Whether casting inshore or exploring the deeper waters near the mouth of the Mississippi, adapting to the varied techniques required in Venice ensures that anglers can fully capitalize on the rich diversity of fish species inhabiting this renowned fishing destination.

Capt rich was very communicative with pick up and knew exactly where the fish were! Only took us about 3-4 hours to get a 6 man red limit. Great company too to have on board as a capt. Will be back for sure!

Went out with Captain Davide on June 5,2023. His in depth knowledge of the waters ( fishing he area since he was 9y.o.) really made the difference. We were on fish almost all day. He knew how to target each species and the best place to get them. He organized the day to target species that would keep us reeling fish in. Combination of American reds (15), Tuna(6), and variety of other species . Not to mention the wahoo that broke me off ( Damn near the biggest I ever saw). Ended with a day of heat exhaustion for me, 2 hours of fish cleaning for David, and buying 3 extra coolers for the haul home. Be careful...... There is alot of mean mugging at the cleaning station. Most everyone else got skunked that day. Thanks Capt. David Dr, James Hill Ft. Lauderdale Fl.

Captain Jacob gets 5 BIG stars from my son Tyler and I. We had a fantastic trip with him yesterday. I cannot imagine there is a better fishing guide in the area . He had us on huge donkey red snappers in no time and he took us to many other locations for other species, since we had limited out on red snapper in the first 2 hours of fishing. His boat was immaculate. As a marine surveyor I look at these things as the safety of my son and myself is very important. Captain Jacob has a great sense of humor and makes sure his guests have a great time. Definitely choose him for your trio.

Captain David was very good and interesting to talk with. Our first day out his deck hand had misunderstood our fishing days and was unable to go so David had to do the trip himself. He did his very best but unfortunately we didn't catch anything and helped him as much as possible. The second day he had two deckhands and it went so much more smoothly and they were very informative and very knowledgeable. They tried their best to put us on fish but it didn't work to our favor. We caught one swordfish. It was a very expressive trip for one fish but I understand that happens. I would definitely use captain David again and hope to try it again next year
