Get ready for one of the greatest thrills in all of Freshwater Fly Fishing, Behemoth Carp on the fly! And it isn't widely known as the pinnacle of Freshwater Flying fishing for no reason, hooking into these freshwater monsters is no easy feat. Catching a carp on the fly is ridiculously hard at first, which is why your guides love them, and they would love it even more if they could help you get on one yourself! When you go out with one of the guides to chase these feisty specimens you can expect to spend your day wading around lakes and river systems stalking your quarry stealthy and precisely. These fish are very aware of their surroundings, and you get no second chances. It’s either a perfect cast and presentation or the fish spooks, and often, the latter. When they do eat, however, you’re can bet your bottom dollar they're going to take you out to the backing! In the Fall and Winter months, you can also target smallmouth buffalo on the fly, which grow even larger than carp, and are actually indigenous to Texas waters. Teaching trips are also welcomed for folks that have never held a fly rod. If this trip is more in line with your skill level, you can expect it to be more centered around the fundamentals, rather than finding and catching a fish, but it won't be too long before your out to the backing on a giant carp as well! Whether fishing from a boat, kayak, or the shoreline, anglers in Austin have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the thrill of crappie fishing in the scenic waters of Central Texas.

What are the most popular months to fish for crappie in Austin?

Crappie seasons in Austin, Texas, offer anglers distinct opportunities to target these prized freshwater fish throughout the year. While crappie can be caught in the area's reservoirs and rivers year-round, certain times stand out as particularly productive for anglers seeking encounters with these tasty fish. Jigging allows anglers to precisely control the depth and movement of their baits, enticing strikes from crappie lurking in cover.

Another effective technique for crappie fishing in Austin is trolling. Anglers troll small crankbaits or spinnerbaits behind a boat at slow speeds, covering large areas of water in search of actively feeding crappie. Trolling allows anglers to explore different depths and areas of the lake or reservoir, increasing their chances of locating schools of crappie. Anglers can adjust the depth and speed of their trolling rigs to match the behavior of the fish and optimize their chances of success.

Live bait fishing is also a popular method for targeting crappie in Austin. Anglers use live minnows or crappie nibbles suspended below a bobber or fished on a small hook near underwater structures. Live bait fishing can be particularly effective when targeting larger crappie or when fishing in heavily pressured waters where artificial baits may be less effective. By presenting natural baits in the strike zone of crappie, anglers can entice these fish to bite and enjoy a successful day on the water in Austin's scenic lakes and rivers.

Kevin was an awesome guide! I took my 10 year son and we were able to catch almost 30 fish, mostly perch, sunfish but did catch some big black drum and catfish. We caught fish almost the whole time we were out which is what I was looking for since we are both inexperienced, my son had a great time and made good memories.

Kevin was fantastic! We had a cold day but spirits were high and fishing was great!!! Caught 7 fish! Kids had a blast and adults enjoyed seeing the lake real estate!

We had a great experience with Captain Kevin. He has a great rig, great personality and put us on enough Large Mouth to please me. I took my 10 year old son because he said he wanted to catch a large mouth. Kevin came through with an extra life jacket too (I forgot one for my son). One hiccup was we were going to meet at different lake but they closed it due to the horrible drought we are in. Kevin audibled and we meet at Lake Bastrop which was more convenient for me anyway. I would definitely recommend this easy to use app and would definitely hire Captain Kevin again. He had everything we needed and got us catching fish quickly. He is really good with kids too!

My experience was wonderful with Captain Kevin! He texted a couple days before the trip to ask if we could head out earlier than our scheduled time due to the heat and go try to beat the weekend rush of recreational boaters. So I met him at the boat ramp, which was very easy to find, at 6:15 and we headed out. The first place we fished was where we caught the biggest fish, pictured below, in the first 20 minutes of fishing. Things were a little slow the rest of the day, but we caught probably around a dozen fish, targeting and catching a variety of different species. . Captain Kevin was extremely friendly, and knows more about fishing than just about anybody I’ve met. He knew I’m a beginner, and was very kind and patient in teaching me and explaining everything to me. We swapped stories, got to know each other, and had the most wonderful time. I would highly recommend fishing with Captain Kevin.

Exceptional fisherman. Great personality & love his excitement & laugh. My wife and I are in our mid 70's but in good health. However, he saw to all our needs and especially finding Crappie. Will be all fishing guide for every fishing trip we book in the future. Had a wonderful time.
