All equipment, licenses, and bottled water provided. For your trip you'll be cruising aboard a big and wide fan boat with an outboard and a trolling motor as well. Lights run off of batteries from a quiet Honda 2000 generator. We can go in inches of water aboard this vessel! Not to mention the front bow boasts over 5,000 watts of lights that light up the ocean floor as if it were high noon! Typical species are stingrays, sheepshead, mullet, flounder, black drum, skipjack, cownose rays, butterfly rays, and more! The water comes alive at night and there are thousands of marine creatures to be seen and most people shoot 100-200 times a night. This trip is mainly in Orange Beach and you may keep all of the fish. The stingrays can be released if you do not want to keep them. We also have charters in Gulf Shores, Perdido Key, Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Fort Walton Beach, Navarre, Destin, and more. Charters usually begin as the sun goes down. Gigging is using a long spear to harvest fish and bowfishing is shooting an arrow at the fish with a bow and reeling it in with a reel attached to the bow. Captain Dustin will help you reach your personal best on this 4-hour adventure. As mentioned, Captain Dustin will provide all bows, gigs, licenses, and drinks. Feel free to bring any food and beverages of your choice too! Don’t forget a cooler with ice to take home your day’s catch, and captain Dustin will make sure you fill it up! Read More

What is stingray fishing in Dauphin Island all about?

Stingrays are a fascinating part of the marine ecosystem in Dauphin Island, contributing to the diversity of species found in its coastal waters. These flat-bodied creatures, known for their distinctive diamond-shaped bodies and long, whip-like tails, are often encountered by beachgoers and anglers alike. While sightings of stingrays are relatively common, interactions with these gentle creatures are usually peaceful and pose minimal risk to humans.

One of the most iconic species of stingray found in Dauphin Island is the southern stingray. These large, bottom-dwelling rays are typically found in shallow coastal waters, where they feed on small fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. With their flattened bodies and well-camouflaged coloration, southern stingrays blend seamlessly into their sandy habitats, making them well-adapted for ambush predation. Despite their formidable appearance, southern stingrays are generally docile and non-aggressive toward humans unless provoked or accidentally stepped on.

While encounters with stingrays in Dauphin Island's waters are common, it's essential for beachgoers and anglers to exercise caution and respect these fascinating creatures. Stingrays are equipped with a sharp barb on their tails, which they may use in self-defense if threatened or startled. To minimize the risk of accidental injury, it's advisable to shuffle your feet when walking in shallow waters to alert stingrays of your presence and avoid stepping directly on them. By practicing awareness and respect for these marine inhabitants, visitors to Dauphin Island can enjoy peaceful coexistence with stingrays while appreciating the beauty of the island's coastal environment.

What are the most popular months to fish for stingray in Dauphin Island?

Dauphin Island, nestled along Alabama's Gulf Coast, experiences a unique rhythm dictated by its stingray seasons. Throughout the year, these graceful creatures migrate through the warm waters, drawing both fascination and caution from locals and visitors alike. Spring marks the beginning of stingray season in Dauphin Island, as temperatures rise and the waters become inviting. Beachgoers keep a watchful eye as they wade into the shallows, knowing that encountering a stingray is not uncommon during this time. As the season progresses into summer, sightings become more frequent, with rays gliding gracefully through the shallows, offering a mesmerizing spectacle for onlookers.

By the time autumn arrives in Dauphin Island, stingray season is in full swing, with the waters teeming with activity. Families enjoying the island's beaches are treated to sightings of these elegant creatures, their streamlined bodies effortlessly maneuvering through the clear Gulf waters. However, as the season progresses, so does the need for caution. Stingrays, though typically gentle, may become defensive if provoked or accidentally stepped on, making it important for beachgoers to shuffle their feet when walking in shallow waters to avoid startling them.

As winter approaches, the stingray season in Dauphin Island gradually winds down, with fewer sightings as the water cools. Locals and visitors fondly reminisce about the encounters they've had with these magnificent creatures throughout the year, eagerly awaiting their return when the cycle begins anew in the following spring. In the meantime, the island's pristine beaches and serene atmosphere continue to beckon, offering a tranquil retreat for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

What techniques are popular for catching stingray in Dauphin Island?

Fishing for stingrays in Dauphin Island is both a popular pastime and a skillful pursuit that requires a mix of patience, strategy, and respect for the marine environment. Anglers often employ various techniques to target these elusive creatures, with one common approach being bottom fishing from boats or piers. Using heavy tackle and sturdy rods, fishermen lower bait such as squid or cut fish to the ocean floor, where stingrays are known to forage. As the bait settles, anglers wait patiently for the telltale tug on their lines, indicating that a stingray has taken the bait.

Another favored method for catching stingrays in Dauphin Island involves surf fishing along the sandy shores. Anglers wade into the shallows, casting their lines into the surf zone where stingrays often patrol in search of prey. This technique requires a keen eye for spotting subtle movements in the water and a steady hand to handle the rod when a stingray strikes. Once hooked, reeling in a stingray from the surf can be a challenging endeavor, as these powerful creatures are known for putting up a spirited fight.

In addition to traditional fishing methods, some anglers in Dauphin Island practice catch-and-release fly fishing for stingrays. Armed with specialized fly rods and weighted flies designed to mimic the natural prey of stingrays, fly fishermen carefully stalk the shallow flats where stingrays feed. This technique requires stealth and finesse, as anglers must present their flies with precision to entice a strike from these wary predators. Whether bottom fishing, surf fishing, or fly fishing, the pursuit of stingrays in Dauphin Island offers anglers a thrilling challenge and a deeper connection to the rich marine ecosystem of the Gulf Coast.

What other species are popular in Dauphin Island?

Dauphin Island, renowned for its rich biodiversity, offers anglers a diverse array of species to target aside from stingrays. One popular catch among fishermen is the speckled trout, also known as spotted seatrout, which thrives in the island's brackish marshes, bays, and estuaries. Anglers often use live bait such as shrimp or mullet, as well as artificial lures, to entice these prized game fish. Speckled trout put up a spirited fight when hooked, making them a favorite among both seasoned anglers and beginners alike.

Another sought-after species in Dauphin Island's waters is the redfish, known for its bronze-colored scales and powerful runs. These hard-fighting fish can be found patrolling the shallow flats and marshy areas, where they prey on crabs, shrimp, and small baitfish. Anglers often target redfish using live or cut bait, as well as artificial lures like spoons and soft plastics. Landing a redfish requires skillful angling and careful maneuvering to navigate the fish away from obstacles such as oyster beds and submerged vegetation.

For those looking for a bigger challenge, Dauphin Island offers opportunities to target larger species such as cobia and tarpon. Cobia, also known as ling or lemonfish, migrate through the Gulf waters in search of prey during the spring and summer months, offering anglers the chance to test their skills against these powerful fighters. Tarpon, known for their acrobatic leaps and sheer strength, are considered one of the ultimate game fish and can be found in the deeper channels and offshore waters surrounding Dauphin Island. Whether targeting speckled trout, redfish, cobia, tarpon, or other species, anglers visiting Dauphin Island are sure to find a thrilling fishing adventure waiting just beneath the surface.

Troy provided an amazing fishing trip for our crew. He was kept busy re-baiting hooks for a crew of 6, and never showed signs of it being a bother to him. Troy was very concerned that we had a memorable trip and provided several locations for us to try our luck to reel in the big ones! Thanks, Troy!!

Had a great time with family. Next time we come down from Missouri I’ll be going again with Dustin. Great guide.
