Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. Summer represents the peak of Yellowfin Tuna season in Panama City, offering anglers the best chances of landing trophy-sized catches. From June to August, the warm waters teem with Yellowfin Tuna, creating a fishing frenzy. The abundance of these fish presents a thrilling challenge for anglers, as Yellowfin Tuna are known for their strength and acrobatic fights. What techniques are popular for catching Yellowfin Tuna in Panama City?

Yellowfin Tuna fishing in Panama City requires a blend of skill, patience, and strategic know-how, as these powerful fish are renowned for their fighting spirit. Anglers employ a variety of techniques to target Yellowfin Tuna effectively, adapting their approach based on factors such as water conditions, time of day, and the behavior of the fish. One popular method among anglers is trolling, where lines are trailed behind a moving boat, often equipped with lures or natural baits mimicking the tuna's preferred prey. Trolling allows anglers to cover large areas of water, increasing their chances of encountering schools of Yellowfin Tuna.

Another effective technique for Yellowfin Tuna fishing in Panama City is live bait fishing. Anglers use live baitfish, such as bonito or mackerel, rigged on hooks and deployed at various depths to entice Yellowfin Tuna. Live bait fishing capitalizes on the natural instincts of Yellowfin Tuna, which are drawn to the sight and scent of live prey. This method requires careful presentation and attention to detail, as anglers must monitor their baits closely and be ready to strike when a Yellowfin Tuna takes the bait.

Jigging is a versatile technique favored by many anglers targeting Yellowfin Tuna in Panama City, particularly when fishing near underwater structures or seamounts where these fish congregate. Anglers use heavy metal jigs, which are dropped vertically through the water column, mimicking the movement of injured baitfish. Yellowfin Tuna are attracted to the erratic motion of the jig, often striking aggressively as it descends. Jigging requires precise timing and control, as anglers must impart the right action to entice Yellowfin Tuna while avoiding snagging on the seafloor or underwater obstacles. Mastering these techniques is essential for anglers looking to maximize their success in pursuing Yellowfin Tuna in the waters off Panama City.

Tim was great! He made sure we caught lots of fish. The toilet on the boat wasn’t working but I’m still giving 5 stars for Tim!

We did not go with Captain Robert. We went with Captain Tim. Captain Robert called me the day before the trip to confirm the fishing trip and our plan for the day. We were to meet at the dock at 6:00. The day of the trip, Captain Robert texted me and said we would leave at 7:00 due to the weather. On the way to the dock, a got a call asking were we still going on the trip. I informed them that we were on the way and I was told to be there at 7:00. When we got to the dock, we had two Captains waiting on us. We were informed that there was a mix up and we were going with Captain Tim. We had to stop and get fuel, ice and bait. We trolled near shore and hooked up with a big fish. A dolphin took our fish. My oldest son got seasick. Water was very rough. We returned my son to shore. We started trolling again. Every time we hooked up with a decent fish, dolphins got our catch. We did catch several Bennita's. Alarm on boat started going off. We checked the motor and Captain called to attempt to trouble shoot. Both motors would not start. Finally got motor started but ran with one motor. We could not go to better bottom fishing spot due to running one motor. We came in early due to one motor and alarm going off constantly. Terrible experience! Screwed up from the start.

The trip was an incredible and unique experience. The boat was clean and well maintained and Capt Robert was great! He worked hard to make sure we got some fish to take home and taught us fresh water fisherman a thing or 2 about ocean fishing. Absolutely recommend.

Captain Matt and his deckhand, Steve were very competent and professional. We had 8 lines out trolling for most of the 14 hour day. Steve even continued on with a good laceration on his hand from the first wahoo we caught. We landed two wahoos and didn’t get many more bites even though they had us constantly trolling with many lines in the water. Matt is a good fisherman and I’ve been out with many over the years. We would definitely recommend them as a competent pelagic fishing operation.
