Overnight Offshore Special Trip

NEW
40 ft 1 - 4 People From $1,375 / person

Arrive at the marina, get settled into your accommodations – either the houseboat you’ve rented or your hotel room. Head on over to Crawgators or Cypress Grill for a cold one and some fresh Louisiana seafood, then it’s time to get some shut eye. Your alarm clock signals the start of day. Grab a coffee, slap on some sunblock and get picked up by the boat at your house boat! Just jump on and head out. Staying at the hotel? Just walk over to the dock in the morning and off we go. The run to the fishing grounds starts with a 20 mile run down river. Listen to the quad suzuki purr in harmony as the smooth 42’ Razorhead hits cruising speed. Enjoy the ride from a bean bag chair. Stop to get bait. Get to the fishing grounds. Now it’s time to fish. Lines in, anxiously anticipating the first strike…then it happens, the clicker sounds….vrr, vrrr, vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Engage the reel and hang on as the circle fish finds its home in the corner of a yellowfin tuna’s mouth. Rod loads, drag peels off on the first massive run. You pump and wind, pump and wind to recover line. Then the tuna takes off for a second run. Pump and wind, pump and wind and finally you hear the mate shout ‘we’ve got color’. You look down and see the profile of a beautiful tuna, sicles and all, slowly coming up in a wide spiral. Finally the fish breaks the surface and the mate delivers a perfect gaff shot – fish caught. You’re overcome with happiness, satisfaction, relief, excitement all at once. The picture captures the moment for you to reflect on for years to come. Then, you do it again. Crack a cold one, have a sandwich and watch your buddy experience what you just went through yourself. After the tuna action, you decide to mix things up. It’s bonus fish time; switch your target and set your sights on swordfish, grouper, snapper, mahi, or wahoo. At the end of the day of catching, you’re back on plane and heading to the marina in the bean bag. Tired but accomplished. The crew cleans your catch so you can pack your coolers full of gorgeous tuna for the trip home. Don’t forget to save a piece for dinner! After a shower and change of clothes, bring a piece over to the restaurant and they’ll prepare it for you. It doesn’t get much fresher than that. Enjoy a meal, a beverage, but not too many, because you booked a second day. Tomorrow, you experience Venice tuna fishing the way it’s meant to be all over again! You haven’t been to Tuna Town unless you’ve fished with Josh. Lock it in! You won't regret it! Read More

LA Offshore Adventure

NEW
40 ft 1 - 4 People From $900 / person

On this epic trip, you'll run out up to 180 miles offshore with Captain Donnie to chase down some of the hardest-fighting and finest-tasting fish the ocean has to offer. These overnight trips are great for targeting big-time Yellowfin Tuna out on the Midnight Knob, located roughly ~170 miles offshore. In addition, you'll be able to go after Swordfish, Sailfish, Marlin, and more! If you're an offshore angler looking to knock some species off your bucket list, there's no better way to do it. In order to fish as efficiently as possible, you'll switch up techniques in order to capitalize on the fishes' feeding patterns. For example, because Tuna spend most of their time feeding on squid down at great depths, and only rise to the surface in the early hours of the morning, you'll only troll for Tuna at that time, then switch back to drifting for Swordfish, chasing Sailfish, or targeting other species. Captain Donnie leaves it all out there when you choose to fish with him. He will work tirelessly to make sure you get the best opportunities at the fish you're trying to catch. His 35' Contender is equipped with all the best rods and reels (as well as electric reels for deep dropping), plus all the tackle you could possibly need for a successful day out on the water! The fish are biting—get out there and start fishing! Read More

Generally, mahi mahi can be targeted year-round in the offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico, providing anglers with ample opportunities to pursue these prized game fish. However, certain times of the year may offer more favorable conditions or higher catch rates for anglers specifically targeting mahi mahi.

What techniques are popular for catching mahi mahi in Boothville-Venice?

In Boothville-Venice, anglers employ a variety of effective techniques to target mahi mahi, leveraging their knowledge of the species' behavior and habitats in the offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico. One popular technique is trolling, where anglers cruise along at a moderate speed while dragging a spread of rigged baits or lures behind their boat. Common trolling baits for mahi mahi include brightly colored skirted lures, squid imitations, and rigged ballyhoo, presented at varying depths to entice strikes from fish cruising near the surface or below.

Another productive technique for targeting mahi mahi in Boothville-Venice is casting and retrieving with light tackle. Anglers may spot schools of mahi mahi feeding near floating debris, weed lines, or offshore structures and cast small jigs, soft plastic lures, or live baitfish into the vicinity. Retrieving the lure with erratic movements mimicking injured baitfish can trigger aggressive strikes from mahi mahi, providing anglers with thrilling battles and rewarding catches. This technique allows anglers to cover a smaller area and target specific fish actively feeding near the surface.

Chumming is also a commonly used technique by anglers targeting mahi mahi in Boothville-Venice, particularly when fishing around floating debris or offshore structures. Anglers deploy a mixture of chopped baitfish, fish oil, and other attractants into the water to create a chum slick, attracting mahi mahi to the area and stimulating their feeding behavior. Once mahi mahi are drawn in close to the boat, anglers can present baits or lures directly into the chum slick, enticing strikes from hungry fish. Chumming can be an effective way to attract and catch mahi mahi in offshore waters, providing anglers with exciting opportunities for action-packed fishing experiences.

Went out with Captain Davide on June 5,2023. His in depth knowledge of the waters ( fishing he area since he was 9y.o.) really made the difference. We were on fish almost all day. He knew how to target each species and the best place to get them. He organized the day to target species that would keep us reeling fish in. Combination of American reds (15), Tuna(6), and variety of other species . Not to mention the wahoo that broke me off ( Damn near the biggest I ever saw). Ended with a day of heat exhaustion for me, 2 hours of fish cleaning for David, and buying 3 extra coolers for the haul home. Be careful...... There is alot of mean mugging at the cleaning station. Most everyone else got skunked that day. Thanks Capt. David Dr, James Hill Ft. Lauderdale Fl.

Captain Jacob gets 5 BIG stars from my son Tyler and I. We had a fantastic trip with him yesterday. I cannot imagine there is a better fishing guide in the area . He had us on huge donkey red snappers in no time and he took us to many other locations for other species, since we had limited out on red snapper in the first 2 hours of fishing. His boat was immaculate. As a marine surveyor I look at these things as the safety of my son and myself is very important. Captain Jacob has a great sense of humor and makes sure his guests have a great time. Definitely choose him for your trio.

Captain David was very good and interesting to talk with. Our first day out his deck hand had misunderstood our fishing days and was unable to go so David had to do the trip himself. He did his very best but unfortunately we didn't catch anything and helped him as much as possible. The second day he had two deckhands and it went so much more smoothly and they were very informative and very knowledgeable. They tried their best to put us on fish but it didn't work to our favor. We caught one swordfish. It was a very expressive trip for one fish but I understand that happens. I would definitely use captain David again and hope to try it again next year
