Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. What are the most popular months to go fishing in Lighthouse Point?

Fishing in Lighthouse Point, Florida, is enjoyable throughout the year, with each season offering its own advantages and opportunities. In the spring, the warmer temperatures lead to increased fish activity, making it an excellent time for inshore fishing. Species like Snook and Redfish are particularly active as they move into shallower waters. Spring is also a good time for offshore fishing, as Mahi-Mahi and Tuna begin to migrate closer to shore, providing exciting opportunities for deep-sea anglers.

Summer brings warm weather and prime fishing conditions for both inshore and offshore enthusiasts. Inshore, the warm waters continue to attract species like Trout and Snook, and anglers often find success using live bait or artificial lures. Offshore, summer is an ideal time for targeting larger pelagic species such as Wahoo and Sailfish. The consistent weather and calmer seas make it a favorable period for deep-sea fishing adventures. However, it's important to be mindful of the potential for tropical storms and plan trips accordingly.

Fall offers a continuation of favorable fishing conditions as water temperatures gradually cool. Inshore fishing remains productive, with species like Redfish and Trout still actively feeding. Fall also marks the beginning of the seasonal migration of certain species, making it a great time to target a variety of game fish. Offshore, the cooler water temperatures can lead to increased activity from Tuna and Mahi-Mahi. Overall, fall provides a comfortable climate for fishing and a good chance to catch a range of species before the winter months set in.

What types of fishing are popular in Lighthouse Point?

Fishing in Lighthouse Point, Florida, offers a range of techniques suitable for its diverse aquatic environments. Inshore fishing is a popular choice, with techniques such as live bait fishing and artificial lures proving effective. Live bait, like shrimp or small baitfish, is often used to target species such as Snook, Redfish, and Trout. Anglers commonly employ techniques such as casting with spinning rods or using light tackle to fish around canals, mangroves, and shallow flats. Soft plastics and topwater lures are also popular choices, especially during the warmer months when fish are more active.

Offshore fishing from Lighthouse Point provides opportunities to target larger pelagic species. Techniques such as trolling and deep drop fishing are commonly used. Trolling involves pulling lures or baitfish behind a moving boat to attract species like Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, and Wahoo. This method is effective for covering large areas of water and locating active fish. Deep drop fishing, on the other hand, involves using heavy weights to drop baited hooks to the seafloor to catch bottom-dwelling species like Grouper and Snapper. Both techniques require specialized gear and knowledge of local waters to maximize success.

In addition to these traditional methods, Lighthouse Point offers opportunities for fly fishing and light tackle fishing. Fly fishing enthusiasts can find success targeting species like Snook and Trout in the shallow waters and estuaries around the area. Light tackle fishing, which involves using lighter rods and reels, is well-suited for inshore species and can provide a more challenging and enjoyable fishing experience. Captain Experiences - I discussed my trip (with Captain Janot) with Jake from Captain Experiences on Sunday 07/28/24. My Egyptian Goose and Iguana hunt with Captain Janot: Pros: Janot was a nice, pleasant guy with a clean boat, who gave me good safety instructions and had plenty of cold beverages. He made some adjustments to accommodate my health and age impairments. Janot got me on a good Egyptian Goose that I shot for a mounter in the first 30 minutes of the hunt. Cons: Janot hunted me for only 3.25 hours instead of the contracted 4 hours. Janot took me to his "honey hole" and we found darn few iguanas; Janot even openly admitted that the City had very recently been in the "honey hole" to take out the iguanas. Instead of 1) taking me to another hunting area with a substantial number of shootable iguanas or 2) letting me know ahead of time that the City had all but wiped out the iguana crop so I could try to book another hunt with some other outfitter or 3) hooking me up with another outfitter, Janot chose to take me to an area he knew was nearly devoid of iguanas. And Yes, there was a few, but nearly all of the iguanas that we saw were less than 1.5 pounds. Prior to the hunt, Janot told me that I should be able to harvest 15-20 and maybe as many as 30 iguanas depending on how long it would take us to get me a goose. In 2.75 hours, he managed to get me 6 iguanas - a good 5 pounder, a tailless 4 pounder, two 1.25 pounders and two .75 pounders. We may have seen about 200 total iguanas of which about 28-30 were shootable. Of those 28-30 shootable iguanas, we harvested only 6, wounded about 14-15 that got away, and missed about 8-10. Janot did not have a retrieving dog which would have really helped with those wounded iguanas that made it into the water or that crawled away into an area where shooting wasn't possible but retrieval was possible. All in all, based solely on my hunt with Janot, I give Janot as a man a thumbs up. I give Janot as a boat captain a thumbs up. I give Janot as an outfitter a thumbs down. And I give the hunt two thumbs down. I would never ever book another hunt with Janot unless he paid my way back and forth to the hunt site from Montana and gave me a free hunt. This was an expensive hunt that was almost completely a bust !!! Janot could have and should have done much better! Kim Latterell Billings, Montana

I took the family (wife, 2 boys and grandma) for a 6 hour charter and had a great time with Captain Ron and the crew, Chris and Brian. They were friendly, safety conscious and knowledgeable. Listening to other boats on the radio that day, the fishing wasn't great yet we hooked a barracuda and a bonita almost as soon as we dropped lines. This was followed up with a nice size mahi that grandma fought 😂 (they cleaned dockside and we took home to eat), 3 more barracudas and an amberjack. Chris was on the ball with keeping bait fresh and when we had multiple fish on, he had complete control of the cockpit. Pick up and drop off was easy. The boat had A/C and a bathroom that was a must have given the family and on a hot day, this made all the difference. I'd rebook the charter.

Captain Carlos was awesome! He provided us with a great time on his boat for our iguana hunt. He had a great attitude, was very informative, and had a lot of patience since we were newbs to shooting iguanas. He definitely knows the area and what to do, but most importantly knows how to make the trip memorable. We would for sure book another tour/trip for a different adventure with him if we decide to come back to Florida. Thank you Captain Carlos! You’re the man.

Captain Chris and Jack his First Mate were fantastic. Two excellent fisherman that make the most of your time on the water and constantly trying different ways to catch the fish. They know just where to go!

We had an amazing trip! Ron and Chris were awesome! We didn’t have much knowledge of fishing going into this. They made it easy and taught us a lot. We caught a variety of fish. We DEFINITELY will be doing this again with Ron on our next trip down to Florida. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
