What types of fishing charters are common in New Orleans?

Deep Sea fishing is the most popular type of fishing in New Orleans as well as inshore fishing, flats fishing, and lake fishing.

The most commonly sought after species in New Orleans are: 1. redfish, 2. speckled trout, 3. black drum, 4. flounder, and 5. sheepshead.

The most common fishing techniques in New Orleans are light tackle fishing, artificial lure fishing, and live bait fishing but sight casting and bottom fishing are popular as well.

How much do New Orleans fishing charters cost?

Prices in New Orleans can range anywhere from about $663 to $4,500, but the average price for a half day trip in New Orleans is $1,854. The average price for a full day trip in New Orleans is $1,976.

Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for fishing in New Orleans?

The most popular season for fishing in New Orleans is summer, and most anglers book their trips 22 days in advance.

So so much fun!!! He found all the good places my bestie got sea sick and our guide was the sweetest caring person he really helped her get past it and offered several times to take us back if needed! He even has a little potty for ladies on the boat so you don’t have to hang off the side!! We hit all of our red snapper limits before 10 and then got some trout and red fish! We also caught TONS of cool stuff that we threw back shark, little shark swimmer fish, angel fish, drum, and so many more!! Amazing trip!!

James is a true captain that has the fisherman in mind at all times. First he knows the area and is safe. He worked hard to get us on fish and we tried several areas before we were successful. He found the fish though and then we stayed to get some in the box. I have been on many fishing trips and James is at the top of my list. He is personable and cares about his clients. If your looking for a quality experienced Captain look no farther than James.

Mackie is very knowledgeable about the lake and has great patience. Within minutes after stopping I had a 20" redfish and Eddie had one hooked in the front of the boat. While we were reeling in, Kenny started fighting a 28"er!!

5 star Captain!! James is one of the best guides we have ever been out with. He put us on fish all day and worked hard to make sure we always had what we needed- he even shared his ball cap with me when he realized I had forgotten mine. I can not say enough good things about him, great fisherman and a great guy!!!

Had a great day with Seth despite the weather. I was only in town for 1 day and could not reschedule so we decided to go out and make the best of it. We caught a nice 22" redfish on first cast and after a few hours work we had another 22" and a fat 27" redfish in the boat. Seth stayed positive the whole day as we tried different spots and techniques. Will definitely fish with him again, hopefully in better weather.
