This trip starts at the docks in the Harborwalk Village of Destin. Upon arrival you will meet with your captain or one of our associates. If your charter begins at 6am (7am off-season) that is when your charter boat will set off from the docks. Your charter service starts with a cruise through the Destin Harbor and out into the Destin Pass. After reaching the end of the Destin Pass we will set up to begin catching our Live Bait. This usually takes 30 mins (give or take) to catch enough Live Bait to fish with during your fishing trip. After we have enough Live Bait we head out into the Gulf of Mexico to begin catching reef or pelagic fish. It all depends on how the fish are biting that day but we will either stay in one area for the rest of your trip or we will move to another fishing spot. Good Bottom Fishing for, Red Snapper, Vermillion Snappers, Mangrove Snappers, Lane Snappers, White Snappers, Triggerfish, Groupers, and Amberjack to keep if in season. Tolling for Pelagic Species such, as King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Mahi Mahi, Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Bonito Tuna. Also, a great Shark Fishing 🦈 charter! After a few hours of fishing (depending on your hourly trip) we will then head back to the docks. This will usually be a 1 hour ride back (depending on your hourly trip) to the harbor. During this time you and your friends can crack open a cold one or relax on the quick trip back to the docks. Immediately after arriving at the docks your captain and crew will clean all your fish for you so you can take your catch with you. You have the option to give your fresh caught fish to most (if not all) restaurants on the Harbor. They will cook up your fish with one of their restaurant dishes for you. You can’t beat this! This is a perfect way to top off the evening from a great time on the water! This boat is Federally Permitted. *Please Note, 8 Hour and 10 Hour charters depart at 6:00am only. You can choose 6 hours at 6:00am or 1pm. Read More

What techniques are popular for catching mangrove snapper in Destin?

When targeting mangrove snapper in Destin, anglers have several effective fishing techniques at their disposal to increase their chances of success. One popular technique is bottom fishing, where anglers use a variety of baits to entice mangrove snapper from their hiding spots around reefs, wrecks, and structure. Live bait such as shrimp, pilchards, or small baitfish are commonly used to attract mangrove snapper, while cut bait or squid can also be effective. Anglers typically use light to medium tackle and a sliding sinker rig or a knocker rig to keep the bait near the bottom where mangrove snapper are often found.

Vertical jigging allows anglers to cover a wide range of depths quickly and efficiently, making it a productive technique for targeting mangrove snapper holding at different levels in the water column. This technique requires anglers to drop the jig to the desired depth and then use a rhythmic jigging motion to entice strikes from mangrove snapper.

In addition to bottom fishing and vertical jigging, anglers in Destin can also employ casting and retrieving techniques to catch mangrove snapper. Using small artificial lures such as soft plastics, jigs, or spoons, anglers can cast around structure, rock piles, and mangrove shorelines where mangrove snapper are known to congregate. This technique allows anglers to cover a lot of water and target mangrove snapper in areas where traditional bottom fishing methods may be challenging. Captain Tommy was great, his mate was very patient with some first time fisherman. Great day on the water. Highly recommend.

Jason M. with Tommy C. of Destin, Florida

  • ★★★★★
Captain Jason is very knowledgeable and worked hard to assure we had a safe and enjoyable trip. The two youngsters on board, ages 11 and 12, had a blast catching snappers and a variety of other species while bottom fishing. Later switched to trolling for mahi and kings but those species didn't want to cooperate that day. His 26ft boat offered a stable and dry ride for our 5 person charter even in a light chop well offshore. Captain Jason well deserves his 5 star "damn good" rating and we will definitely contact him should we decide to fish this area again.

We were set up to go out with Joey, but there was a last minute change to Captain Taylor. He was a very knowledgeable and patient guide and was great with the kids. Weather was cool and cloudy to start, but he eventually put us on some fish and was a great family experience. It was a catch and release trip which was slightly disappointing but hey, still had a blast. Would definitely book again, hope to return for an offshore experience soon!! Thank you Captain Taylor!!!

Captain Alex was great. It's been a rainy week in FL, and he was able to squeeze us in. He knew all of the spots. Multiple people had mentioned not catching anything the day we went out, and our group caught our maximum limit. We've concluded in order to have a great fishing experience you need the right captain, Alex is just that. We even were able to go shark fishing for about an hour and caught two sharks. Alex was easygoing, kept us safe, accommodated us, and made should we had a great experience. Next time we are back we definitely will be using Alex!
