Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

These fish are commonly found around mangroves, seagrass beds, and other natural structures, making the bay a popular location for both inshore and fly fishing.

For those who prefer offshore fishing, North Miami Beach provides convenient access to the Atlantic Ocean, where deeper waters offer opportunities to catch larger species. The ocean's deep waters and varied topography provide ideal conditions for a range of fishing techniques, from trolling to bottom fishing. The availability of charter boats and experienced guides makes offshore fishing accessible for all levels of experience.

In addition to these options, North Miami Beach has several local canals and waterways that offer freshwater fishing opportunities. These canals are home to species such as Largemouth Bass and Peacock Bass, providing a different type of fishing experience. What are the most popular months to go fishing in North Miami Beach?

Fishing in North Miami Beach is influenced by seasonal changes, offering different opportunities throughout the year. In the winter months, from December through February, the cooler temperatures bring a variety of fish into the area. This is a great time for targeting species like Snook and Tarpon in Biscayne Bay, as these fish are more active in cooler water. Offshore fishing can also be productive during this period, with opportunities to catch Mahi-Mahi and Sailfish as they migrate through the area.

Spring, from March to May, is an excellent time for fishing in North Miami Beach. As the weather warms up, fish become more active and move towards shallower waters. This season is ideal for targeting species like Tarpon, which migrate through the region and provide exciting fishing opportunities. The inshore waters around Biscayne Bay are particularly productive for Snook and Redfish, while offshore, the increasing temperatures attract species like Tuna and Mahi-Mahi.

Summer, from June to August, brings warmer temperatures and changes in fishing patterns. The hot weather can make fishing challenging, but early mornings and late evenings are often the best times to fish. This season is good for catching species like Sailfish and Mahi-Mahi offshore, as they are more active in the warmer waters. Inshore, the canals and waterways are ideal for targeting freshwater species such as Largemouth Bass and Peacock Bass. Overall, the diverse fishing opportunities in North Miami Beach throughout the year make it a great destination for anglers seeking a variety of fishing experiences.

What types of fishing are popular in North Miami Beach?

Fishing in North Miami Beach provides a range of techniques suited to both inshore and offshore environments. For inshore fishing in Biscayne Bay and the surrounding waterways, anglers often use techniques such as fly fishing, spinning, and baitcasting. Fly fishing is particularly popular for targeting species like Snook and Tarpon, as the clear waters and shallow flats are ideal for presenting a variety of flies. Spinning and baitcasting with artificial lures or live bait can also be effective, especially around mangroves and seagrass beds where these fish are commonly found.

When venturing offshore, North Miami Beach offers opportunities for deep-sea fishing with techniques such as trolling, bottom fishing, and drift fishing. Trolling with lures or live bait is a popular method for targeting larger pelagic species like Mahi-Mahi, Sailfish, and Tuna. This technique involves dragging baited lures behind a moving boat to attract and hook fish. Bottom fishing, using heavy weights and baited hooks, is another effective method for catching species such as Snapper and Grouper in deeper waters. Drift fishing, which involves allowing the boat to drift with the current while fishing with live bait or lures, can also be successful for a variety of offshore species.

In addition to these methods, North Miami Beach's local canals and freshwater bodies offer opportunities for bass fishing. Techniques such as using plastic worms, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits can be effective for targeting Largemouth Bass and Peacock Bass in these freshwater environments. The diversity of fishing techniques and environments available in North Miami Beach ensures that anglers can enjoy a wide range of fishing experiences, whether they prefer inshore, offshore, or freshwater fishing.

In Biscayne Bay and the nearby coastal areas, popular species include Snook, Tarpon, and Redfish. Snook are commonly found around mangroves and seagrass beds, making them a prime target for both fly and conventional fishing techniques. Tarpon, known for their powerful runs and acrobatic leaps, are a sought-after catch, especially during their seasonal migrations. Redfish, with their distinctive copper color and spot patterns, are also abundant in the inshore waters and can be caught using live bait or lures.

Offshore fishing in North Miami Beach offers opportunities to target larger pelagic species such as Mahi-Mahi, Sailfish, and Tuna. Mahi-Mahi, also known as Dolphin fish, are known for their vibrant colors and are a popular catch due to their challenging fight and delicious flavor. Sailfish, with their impressive sails and speed, provide an exciting experience for anglers using trolling techniques. Tuna, including species like Blackfin and Yellowfin, are another prized catch in the offshore waters, often sought after for their size and the quality of their meat.

In addition to these, the local canals and freshwater lakes around North Miami Beach are home to species such as Largemouth Bass and Peacock Bass. Largemouth Bass, a favorite among freshwater anglers, can be caught using a variety of lures and baits. Peacock Bass, which are known for their striking appearance and aggressive behavior, offer a unique fishing experience in the region’s freshwater environments. The variety of species available in North Miami Beach ensures that anglers can enjoy a diverse and rewarding fishing experience throughout the year.

The waterway provides access to a range of species, including Largemouth Bass and Peacock Bass in the freshwater sections. The canals and waterways that branch off from the Intracoastal are also good for targeting these freshwater species, with several public access points making it easy to reach productive fishing areas.

We had a wonderful time with Edmond. He was very prepared for the trip and he did his best to make sure we had every opportunity to catch fish. The bite was tough to get today and we had a few hits that slipped the hook. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed ourselves. I would go with him again.

I go on several fishing and hunting charters a year. This one has me counting the days until we go again. The cast and blast is a perfect split day balance without getting burned out on one species. Justin is an excellent guide with great personality and patience (I’ve found that rare with most captains). Puts us on the game and wife had a great time!

Jusin was able to put together a great Cast and Blast trip for us.  He does work very hard to put together a good trip.  Fishing for Peacocks, he did make several moves to various spots and successfully put us on fish.  Hunting for iguanas, again he was able to put us on them for a total of 25 iguanas.  Lunch was very good, and along with good weather made for a really good trip, would definitely recommend.

I took the family (wife, 2 boys and grandma) for a 6 hour charter and had a great time with Captain Ron and the crew, Chris and Brian. They were friendly, safety conscious and knowledgeable. Listening to other boats on the radio that day, the fishing wasn't great yet we hooked a barracuda and a bonita almost as soon as we dropped lines. This was followed up with a nice size mahi that grandma fought 😂 (they cleaned dockside and we took home to eat), 3 more barracudas and an amberjack. Chris was on the ball with keeping bait fresh and when we had multiple fish on, he had complete control of the cockpit. Pick up and drop off was easy. The boat had A/C and a bathroom that was a must have given the family and on a hot day, this made all the difference. I'd rebook the charter.
