trip description for Bonefishing the Bahamas in Spanish Wells

Captain Bentley, specializes in world-class bonefishing around Spanish Wells, home of some of the best flats in the world! If you're looking to catch bonefish on the fly, there is no better place than the Bahamas. Happy and "uneducated" bonefish swim around everywhere and infest the local flats and chanels. Included in your trip are snacks, water, ice, and all the necessary fishing gear. If you'd like to bring your own gear, Captain Brentley encourages you to do so! When you head out with Captain Bentley, you'll be stalking the endless gin-clear flats aboard his 18-foot Action Craft flats boat. The boat can carry up to three anglers per trip but 2 will fish much more comfortably and is preferable since added wait can make it harder for your captain to pole the boat around. Positioned on the front of the bow, fly rod in one hand, shrimp imitation fly in the other, Captain Bentley will pole you around looking for mud clouds and light grey torpedos. Cruising fish (torpedos) can be tough to catch, especially since there often on high alert. But if you can make a cast past--and infront of--the fish, you can strip it back by them to intersect their path and entice a bite! Muds can be easy to spot and are a sign of happy fish milling around looking for a meal. You don't even need to see the fish sometimes: after your Captain poles you within striking distance of the cloud of mud, you can make a delicate cast just beyond it, and twitch your fly through for an epic bite! Give it a big strip to set the hook (Don't raise the rod tip), and get ready for one of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean (pound for pound). Captain Bentley is based out of Spanish Wells, and will happily come pick you up if you're staying in Spanish Wells or Eleuthera. If you're staying on Harbour Island, he asks that you please ferry back over to the dock in Eleuthra and he will meet you there! So come spend a day bonefishing with Captain Bently down in the Bahamas for an epic fly fishing experience. His knowledge of the local waters means you will have success in your catch! Read More

trip description for Epic Spanish Wells Bonefishing in Spanish Wells

Looking for the best bonefishing in the Bahamas? Captain Shaw has got you covered over in Spanish Wells! There are few places in the world where you can expect to find trophy-size bonefish. The Bahamas is arguably the best, and within the Bahamas, Spanish Wells is the cream of the crop. What makes Spanish Wells the best bonefishing in the Bahamas you ask? It’s not that the average schooling fish is 4-6 pounds, it’s not that you will see bonefish easily topping 10 pounds, it’s not that you will see 15-pound bonefish tailing frequently. What makes Spanish Wells the best bonefishing in the Bahamas, and quite possibly the world, is that there is no pressure on these fish. The bonefish in the keys are big and plentiful, but they are smart, they've been raised around boats, humans, flies, and hooks of all manner so they have become picky eaters. Down in Spanish Wells is quite the opposite. With almost no fishing pressure, the bohemian bonefish don't give it a second thought if a tasty fly is dancing in front of their face! These fish are still bonefish however and are not unintelligent. That's where your expert guide comes in. With over 25 years of experience guiding successful bonefish adventures, and a lifetime spent out on these waters, there is no one better to pole you across the gin-clear flats and stalk up on happy fish than Captain Shawn! Position is everything when casting to these happy fish, and Captain Shawn will set you up perfectly, every time, for an easy shot on these "Grey Ghosts of the Flats." The saying “You're only as good as your equipment” is definitely the case when chasing bonefish. Captain Shaw's 2016, 18 foot flats boat is a new generation of technical poling skiff designed with shallow water tournament fishing & guide captains in mind. This boat is the premiere flats boat and is without question the nicest flats boat in all of Eleuthera. The boat was custom made and has a premium fit & finish, completely custom made & hand laid. It provides exceptional slide-free maneuvering, is very easy to pole, tracks straight, handles chop & provides a smooth, dry ride with no hull slap, and fishes very quiet. This skiff offers unmatched shallow water performance while running and poling. If you want to have the opportunity to catch a trophy size bonefish in waters where bonefish have rarely seen a fisherman or a fly, book your trip with Captain Shawn for an unforgettable experience flyfishing the Bahamas. Excellent time. Captain is awesome. 100 percent. We love fishing and Capt. Sean will put you on the fish if they’re hungry.

This was truly one of the best charter experiences I've had in over 15 years of sportfishing. Since there is no land access to Spanish Wells, Shawn picked us up from the ferry port on the main island of N. Eleuthera. Capt. Shawn's boat is nothing short of a Rolls Royce on water. Shawn is the perfect guide. Quiet when you want him to be, but willing to share his decades of experience fishing in Spanish Wells when needed. We did an extended half day trip which got us to waters around 75 feet deep. The water is so clear here, you could see straight down to the bottom. We wore out some strawberry grouper, porgy, yellowtail snapper, and trigger fish all day. The highlight of the trip was when a pack of amberjack came right up under the boat. I grabbed the heaviest rod Shawn had and hooked a small porgy through the spine and dropped it down about 15 feet. This massive amberjack was toying with my bait for a few minutes right under my nose. Incredible adrenaline rush! He finally took it and instantly ripped out a couple hundred yards of line, reel absolutely screaming! Mr. Jack wore me out after about 15 minutes, and I passed the rod over to my buddy. We got him up to the boat but he was way too big for the net and he flopped out right on the gunwale. Didn't get a picture with him, but it was truly the fight of a lifetime. Another highlight of the trip, instead of taking us straight back to the marina to clean the fish, Shawn popped over to a huge shipwreck where we got out and snorkeled for a while. Then, he took us over to one of the dozens of gorgeous empty beaches that dot the area, dropped anchor, and cleaned the fish while we enjoyed the views, explored the beach, and threw a few back. Shawn was born and raised here, so you'd be hard pressed to find a fishing guide in Spanish Wells with more local knowledge. Everything about this trip was perfect, I would recommend it to any angler of any skill level.
